The NFL Starts Today - Are You Watching/Rooting For Anyone

Mates,

So enough hand-wringing about our beloved football team for a minute, and lets talk about the NFL season which starts in about 20 minutes.  The Lions are poised to do the 'Mariucci' and go 0-16.  I actually think that or something close to it will happen to them.  That whole bit with AB losing his mind, his helmet and his team to then end up in NE could be a do-over of what Randy Moss did years ago and end up a winner with Tom Brady.

So besides the whole 'NFL is garbage' take which is understandable but not the topic of this post, the questions are:

1.   What is your prediction for the Lions?

2.   What is your prediction for the NFL season as to top teams, surprising teams, and Super Bowl picks?

For good measure I am adding this photo of the Lions and hoping we ditch the sharpie colored mess they wear now and go back to better uni's and maybe better on-field performance.

Go Lions! I expect a heartbreaking loss week 1. I would guess how it happens, but it will definitely be in some way I would never think of. I will first be angry and then I will laugh.

Pittsburgh Steelers - Diontae Johnson. Went to the high school my girlfriend used to teach at in Florida. Knew him very well as we followed the basketball team and he was solid basketball player too. Their team went to the states when he was a junior. Was hoping Michigan would have given him a look. Was recruited by Wisconsin but was never offered, ended up at Toledo, where I also was an athlete, and had a great career there.

i should put in my own predictions, at least about the lions.  i think the lions are in big trouble and that 5 wins is the top for them.  i could easily see them going 3-13 or, in fact, doing the 'mariucci' at 0-16.  shame of it all is that if the lions were ever any good all of SE michigan would go bananas and it would be so much fun.  win a playoff game?  once in my life time.  too sad in the sporting context.

i have no great insight on the rest of the league but i am curious how the rams and the chiefs will do, respectively, and if they might be the super bowl teams this year.

I’ve come to realize I much prefer watching the NFL for fantasy football to watching college football as a Michigan fan.

I like when the Lions win, but I don’t really care, and can watch any game with equal enthusiasm so long as one of my players is in the game.

My problem with college football is that there are only 3-4 games that give you an opportunity to prove your team is any good. The majority of the season is meaningless fluff that can only ruin the entire year or serve as a weak prognosticator for how your team will do in games that actually matter. I get no joy in watching Michigan play MTSU or Army.

Much prefer professional league formats where every game has a high potential for loss but won’t individually ruin a whole season until the home stretch.

Watching the Lions is like watching the old Faces of Death VHS tapes.  Going in you know you're going to be disgusted and probably even horrified, yet watch anyway for some reason.  Barry was the ONLY reason to watch the Lions as a kid.  The Lions were always terrible, so I adopted the Steelers as my team in the early 90s.  Season prediction: hard to see anyone taking down the Pats...

College- Almost every big game from across the country is on tv throughout the day/night on several different channels.

NFL- in Ohio I get to watch Eagles vs Redskins. That’s it for the 1:00 games. Such a joke. The Browns in my own state are playing.

Interested to see how Jabrill will play for the Giants, they play Dallas at 4:30 today.  He'll have to cover Jason Witten who has come out of retirement.  Of course, he was traded for OBJ, and he's from the NJ area.
