Next Year's O-Line

Submitted by maizenbluenation on
Our pass protection looked spotty again today and I was just wondering what the projection is for who will be starting next year. Obviously having a healthy Molk back will help considerably, but what about the rest of the lineup? Will Taylor Lewan be game ready? What about Barnum and Omameh? Left-to-Right, who do you think will start, and will it be an upgrade over what our line currently looks like?

I gotta tell you I am having a hard time with this one becasue our O-line was supposed to be our strongest unit. I know the loss of Molk has been huge but we should have had more depth than this. I guess they should only get better from here because they can't get much worse but anymore I don't know.

Moosman and Ortmann are gone to graduation. The other starters will return. Schilling, Molk, Huyge, Dorrestein all come back. I wonder about Molk, don't they say that it takes a full year to come back from such an injury (ACL)? I worry he may not be ready to go for the start of next season. Omameh started today since Dorrestein was out, but I'll have to re-watch the game to see how he fared today. Huyge and Dorrestein have been the problem points on the O-line this season, IMO. Huyge has gotten knocked back too often (Illinois) and Dorrestein is not be quick enough to handle many DE's in pass protection. We do have a large group of kids who will be redshirt freshmen and sophomores next season who will be able to compete for a starting spot. A good chunk of them were 4* recruits so hopefully they'll be up to the task.

Left Tackle-Taylor Lewan, Left Gaurd-Steve Schilling, Center-Molk, Right Guard-Huyge, Washington, Barnum, one of those 3, Right Tackle-Patrick Omameh. That's how I see it.

This is a good question. I'm hoping Lewan is ready to step in but RS Freshman left tackles are not very common. Huyge beat out Omameh and Barnum this year so he could actually start at LT. RT is a pretty good training ground for your LT. I'd be nervous about a LT that hasn't started before unless he is just dominating in practice. Based on this year, I would actually guess Huyge, Schilling, Molk, Barnum and Omameh with Washington and Lewan working their way in through a rotation and developing throughout the year.

its probably going to be... LT: Dorrestein, LG: Schilling, C: Molk, RG: Omameh, RT: Huyge The RS freshmen Lewan and Schofield should make a push at both tackle spots. Ricky Barnum and Quinton Washington should push inside. Its also possible that Omameh (or even Barnum) slides outside to tackle, and opens up things for a young player or Ferrara inside.
