Next Saturday - Michigan Open Spring Practice

Submitted by Eli on March 31st, 2019 at 7:22 PM

Well next Saturday seems like a great time to hang out in Ann Arbor and watch the Spring practice. Anyone know any details? Anyone go last year? if so, what is fan accessibility and such like? Any chance of getting kids down on the field?

Real dumb scheduling by the athletic department continues.

Michigan Softball and Michigan Baseball have massive home series next Saturday while that’s supposed to be going on.

When will you realize that non-revenue sports don't matter when it comes to football-related events at Michigan?

I guarantee you 90% of people who go to the spring game wouldn't even know there was a softball or baseball game happening.

Not saying it's right, but It is what it is.

Well for one, it's not even the spring game next weekend. It's just a practice that was originally supposed to be a fan fest per the Harbaugh podcast but has since just become a practice.

And secondly it's pretty idiotic to do that when you could have people who want to go or might go check out those two teams for the first time after the practice ends.

Not fair to the athletes or the fans who do care.

Not that long ago we scheduled a lot better.

But if there were no open practices, which there usually are not because Maize Submarine*, then no one would have a choice to make. Which is ironic since we always complain here about the lack of open practices. And now you're complaining because there is one.

*Noting here that I invented the phrase Maize Submarine but failed to trademark it as an official property of Boddicker Crime Concepts, a division of Boddicker Criminal Enterprises Inc. I shall not make that mistake again!

Almost nobody gives a shit about baseball or softball. Practically nobody cared about the basketball team while the football team was playing.

Football > All at Michigan.

Wow just an uneducated take. Softball season tickets were capped because of such high demand. The stadium is frequently sold out. Only tickets out there the rest of the season are outfield general admission.

That's fine.

Something you don't realize is that you're not normal when it comes to Michigan fandom. And that's great. You do you. I don't care how you spend your time compiling data or how much money you spend on Michigan stuff or whatever. It doesn't affect me.

But just don't pretend that Michigan needs to bend to your will (and the few people like you) to appease fans of these minority sports. We all know which ones rule the roost (football, basketball, even hockey), and it should be that way because those are the moneymakers. Michigan's football program doesn't need to worry about scheduling around softball or tennis or swimming.

Yeah, this was supposed to be the Fan Fest deal and we’d like to go with our grandkids but there’s been nothing on it.

Edit - thanks Seth!

I've seen Mike Sainristil running with some first teamers on offense. It will be interesting to hear what people who attend this event see (I won't be attending). I'm sure it's because we have some guys out, but it's still interesting to see the frosh thrown in there.
