New Tiebreaker Rules

I don't know if anyone has posted something about this, but apparently the Big 10 is changing it's tiebreaker rules on who gets to go to BCS bowl games. Original article found here: http://www.thewizofodds.com/the_wiz_of_odds/2009/02/a-big-step-back-for… One big thing that they changed was that scheduling a I-AA team no longer has an effect on going to BCS games, so I bet you can expect more cupcake games coming to the Big 10. The other big change is they are adopting the Big 12 rule that screwed Texas last year - in the event of a tie (after head to head), the highest BCS rated team will go. Just thought I'd put this out there. Hope everyone has a great weekend, ESPECIALLY Manny Harris. Go Blue!

Getting rid of the 1-AA tiebreaker rule is not cool. I was really happy that the league had that in effect. I was kind of hoping that it would have come into play this past season (although that would mean that MSU would win the league, so I wasn't hoping too hard). 1-AA games need to be reduced, and anything that could help that cause should be celebrated. If the Big 12 changes their 3-way tiebreaker rule to something like eliminate the team with the lowest BCS standings I really hope that the following occurs: Texas, Oklahoma and Texas Tech all tie for first, with Oklahoma beating Texas, Texas beating TT and TT beating Oklahoma. Then the tiebreaker rule eliminates TT because it's the lowest ranked team, and Oklahoma gets picked over Texas even though Texas is ranked higher in the BCS than Oklahoma. Then we'll get to hear Mack Brown complain and say that the highest ranked BCS team should win the division and head-to-head doesn't matter.

Cupcake games are just what UM needs the next year or two to gain experience and build their confidence. If the conference is tough enough, why bother scheduling a tough non-con schedule? It leads to more injuries and more fatigue at the end of the year. As it stands now, the Big Ten is the easiest route to the NC game. That's why OSU has gotten there so much during UM's mini-era of weakness. Until there is a playoff to determine who the acutal best team is, a team like UM would be stupid to schedule any difficult games besides ND and their conference schedule.
