New in-state offers: Belleville QB and LB

After a camp this weekend, Michigan extended offers to a couple in-state kids from Belleville.

The first is 2024 linebacker Jeremiah Beasley, a 6'1", 210-pounder.

The second is 2025 quarterback Bryce Underwood (6'1", 185 lbs.), who has offers from Kentucky, Marshall, and Michigan State.

I believe Underwood is the first '25 prospect that Michigan has offered.

Belleville has been immensely weird.  Barnett and Dobbs flames out at MSU, UM took Seldon, and Payne was ticketed out of state almost from the jump.  I know much was made about Harbaugh's relationship with their staff but I'm not sold that Belleville is some consistent fountain of talent.

My son played against Bryce Underwood and MaxEx in a few 7v7 tournaments this year.  The kid is special.  The ball just jumps out of his hand.  He has the tools to be a top QB in the 2025 class.  I believe he was working with Joe Milton during lockdown.  Hopefully we get to watch him in the Maize and Blue someday.

Class of '25 means he hasn't yet entered HS?!

I'm thinking back to the best players from when I was in 8th grade, and trying to imagine any of them SO good Bo would have come to Tappan Jr High & offered them a schollie!

I mean, what a trip even trying to conjure such an event happening! I guess camps & all tho, huh? Wild, crazy stuff Ed!

Well, as an 8th grader it's reasonable to project he'll have grown a bit taller by 2025, yeah?

I remember Lane Kiffin has offered a couple of middle-schoolers in the past and one of them wound up being a pretty WR despite being recruited as a QB (Davis Sills) and the current one is slotted for (possibly) Miami and seems like a good prospect but not a world-beater.  It's hard enough looking at junior HS tape and knowing if the guy will be a good college player; I can't imagine trying to figure out if a kid who just turned a teenager is going to look as a college athlete.

It takes a lot of projection. I played with a couple kids in 8th grade who probably would have been offered by someone in the current climate, but grades/character issues crushed both their careers. One was in jail and never graduated, and the other went to an FBS school for a year, redshirted while trying to get his grades in order, and then dropped out.

Michigan also offered class of 2024 quarterback Isaiah Marshall before he was in high school, and I think they offered 2023 quarterback Dante Moore before that point, too. If you're a talented QB in the Detroit area, I guess Michigan hears about you pretty early and wants to jump in to develop a strong relationship.
