New in-state offer: 2023 DE Jalen Thompson
Things have kind of slowed down with Detroit (MI) Cass Tech recruiting over the past couple years, as Belleville and West Bloomfield have started grabbing some of the Detroit talent. But Michigan offered 2023 defensive end Jalen Thompson today. He's 6'4", 240 lbs. and already had offers from Kentucky, Michigan State, and a couple others.

Hey Magnus, how is the relationships between Wilcher and our coaching staff these days?
Seems like a good number of Cass Tech guys never really excelled at Michigan, why do you think that is?

Not really true. All kids don't make all conference, but DPJ did well, JD did well, Michael Onwenu did well and others haven't really excelled, but it's not easy to succeed in power 5 football.
Edit: Mike Weber and Damon Webb also had pretty good careers at OSU.

You realize Jalen Kelly-Powell is just one person, right?

I realize that quite a few guys did well but there have been quite a few guys that didn't or haven't.
Cissoko, the big DT who jumped on a car hood, I forget his name, Wil something I think, and maybe others here can help refresh our memory. It's just an observation not trying to be shitty about it. I always wish nothing but the best for our guys, on and off the field.

He played for the Jets and eas playing in the CFL.

Just a sample size thing.
Cass Tech produces more D-1 players, so it might seem like more don't pan out because you remember their names. As other posters mentioned, there are plenty that do. Might even be a better hit rate than most schools if you really broke it down.
Bottom line is that the specific kids/players find their own success in college and it has nothing/little do to with what high school they were recruited from.

I think the relationship is solid, but probably not as strong as it was during the Brady Hoke days. I think Michigan has broadened its search for players (which is a good idea, IMO).
But I think Cass Tech guys have done fine at Michigan. Yes, there have been guys who didn't pan out (Jaylen Kelly-Powell, Teric Jones, Terry Richardson) but there have also been guys who did well (Mike Onwenu, Delano Hill, Donovan Peoples-Jones). The hit rate is never going to be 100% on a school where you get more than a few recruits.

Seriously? Cass tech as a school had two nfl draft picks in 2020, one in 2019 and two in 2017. Most of their players contribute in college. They turn out legit cornerbacks every year

I guess people have forgot Harlan Huckelbee !

I remember Harlan Huckleby.
Does that count for anything?

I’ve never heard of this kid before, but before I clicked on the link I knew he was from one of three high schools. West Bloomfield, Belleville, or Cass Tech. Michigan doesn’t stray much from those “Big 3”. Maybe Detroit MLK. Surely there’s talent at other schools...Do superstar middle school players just transfer to one of those schools?

Michigan does stray from those schools, but those are the consistent talent-producers.
During the 2021 class, for example, Michigan offered two guys from Clarkston, one guy from Grand Rapids, a guy from Oak Park, etc.
In 2022 they're going after guys from Grosse Pointe South, Birmingham, etc.
