New offer for O'Brien

Submitted by PKnoll_17 on

I was actually shadowing Danny at school yesterday. He was in Religion class when the office called him down. Waiting for him in the office was Bobby Williams, Alabama's LB ? Coach. They talked about the scheme and Bama's depth chart. He then set up a time for Danny to call Saban around 2 pm. He called and that's when Saban extended a scholarship offer to him. Obviously he is very excited and wants to visit either later in the spring or early fall. He said UT may be his #1 but doesn't want everyone to think he's a lock. You have to be an insider for the Scout and Rivals artcicles.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, Saban said they only have 3 DT's on their roster, and 2 of them are SR's which he liked.

i think Sunseri is the LB coach.  I may be wrong.  For the knowledgeable, how does O'Brien compare to Pipkins, Godin, Day or other guys who are in the picture with Michigan.  Thanks.

O'Brien could be a real disruptive player. He seems like he would play the 1 tech a la Martin. Day and O'Brien are the two that I would prefer at DT (ones which I believe we have the best and most realistic shot at).

I remember hearing that he was in A2 a while back but didn't hear anything else on him.  Both he and Godin didn't come to the spring game.  And you hear nothing about him, almost seems like he is a silent to Tenn.

This is one of the more intruging prospects in this class in regards to Michigan. It would be a shame for him and Richardson to go out of state. It seems like they are battles that will not be won by this staff. Hopefully some of the instate commits will get in their respective ears and sway them our way.

FYI - I moderated your post as "Flamebait" just because it seemed like a fun thing to do since I do not know what "Flamebait" actually means.  I decided to test it on you because we've had some fun battles in the past.  I assume its bad rating because your score went to zero so I apologize for that.

No worries. The new system still needs to be tinkered with to some degree but I like how the comments that are deemed as flamebait (or some other negative adjective) collapse down so they don't clog up the conversation.

Thanks for the update; congrats to Dannny on a big offer.  Did Danny happen to mention why UT leads for him?  They haven't exactly been the toast of the SEC lately.

I thought that off-campus, in-person contact by a coach is not allowed during this time period.  Does this only apply to contact by a head coach?  Does anyone have a grasp of the recruiting rules?

He's gone, Michigan's going to need to win consistently for a few years in order to start putting a fence up. As it is, who can blame a guy for wanting to play in nice weather for a recent national champion. Besides I'd rather celebrate the kids who want to come here than stress about the ones who don't.

Just a quick question, are you in 8th grade?  I only ask because I know 8th graders visit Powers and shadow kids for a day and can't think of any other non-creepy way to shadow a high-school kid, though I'm sure there is one.

You can only shadow someone in your grade, I grew up with Danny so I got to shadow him. I was not allowed to be there when he spoke with them though. His conversation with Coach Williams wasn't that long though. This was towards the end of the day though so when he came back to class he told me all about it.

I wonder how much of an affect having Godin potentially commit to us will have on O'Brien. Because as of right now, I think were a long shot. Which, I don't understand, I mean does he realize we now have the former Defensive cordinator of the Ravens in Mattison, Brady Hoke who specializes on the DL and a young, enthusiatic defensive line coach in Montgomery....thats seems to be a recipe for success for any defensive linemen imo and would certainly be a very attractive option. But yet, I hardly hear anything out of the O'Brien camp about Michigan. Maybe it comes down to were just not recruiting him that hard anymore?
