More BBQ Talk

Submitted by Ziff72 on
I've heard a lot of talk about this "BBQ at the big house", but I must admit I don't know what it is. What happens there?? I assume recruits are not coming in from across the country to sample RR's phat rib sauce recipe. A brief speculative itinerary would be nice, thanks.

than a standard unofficial visit. Meaning that there will be tours of the facilities, tours of the education centers, meetings with coaches, meeting with academic advisors and then food. It's just done on a larger scale and more organized. Also, since there is no practice going on the coaches can be fully devoted to the kids.

Yeah, it's really just a fun reason to get kids on campus during a time when there isn't anything else to see. It gives recruits a chance to come and get a closer, more personal look at a lot of the facilities, speak with coaches they didn't get a chance to the last time, meet other players/commits/recruits. We got a couple commits last year from the BBQ. Does anyone remember who?

....maybe he didn't like Rita's cooking. Honestly, this is all a bit creepy. Let's just wait for any commitments to be made public. I envision multiple 14-year-olds (as well as Sam Webb and Karsch) biking up and down Rich Rod's street with "I love MGOBLOG" shirts on, trying to figure out a way to finagle their way into Rod's backyard to sample the sweet corn. We don't need to know an "itinerary" on an unofficial summer recruiting get-together, do we? I know I'm going to get brushed back here, but do we need to know anything other than "BBQ, unofficial visits?"

By itinerary, I don't think he meant a schedule with times and locations. What the OP was wondering, which I think it legitimate, was what types of things is Michigan doing that are different or additional to other teams competing for these recruits. Is Tressel having a BBQ? Is Weis? If he did, would there be any food left for the recruits? Showing up is clearly discouraged, but wanting an idea of what M does to boost recruiting is a valid inquiry. IMO.

I agree JG that we don't need minute by minute breakdowns of where recruits will and will not be so that people can stalk them. But on the other hand, I don't think a simple understanding of what goes on at a function like this is out of bounds. Some people don't know what happens at an unofficial visit and are just curious. So while we don't need to "now anything other than "BBQ, unofficial visits," I think it's nice to know what that means generally speaking.

I can understand it if you don't particularly care what goes on at the BBQ, but I don't see how wanting to know what happens there is 'creepy.' Considering this recruiting event has an actual name that keeps getting mentioned in the press and that that name seems to indicate there are going to be enormous indirect heat grills set up on the 50-yard line, it hardly seems weird to be curious about what goes on.

.....but doesn't "BBQ" kind of describe itself? I step back. I don't aim to criticize any of you for wanting to know because I follow this program too, very closely. It's good for us to know, but there is a point where we all know too much, isn't there? I did get the vision of Karsch and Webb on bikes in front of RR's house trying to get in and report on verbal commits and it made me laugh.

I know what I do at a BBQ. I have a really good feeling that there will be a little more to it at this one. Unless RR and kids will get wasted, the girls will convince them to play flip cup, and then they will run into the ocean bitching about how cold it is but not wanting to come out until you ride "the big one."

and want to add that since nothing else is going on in the M football world, this event gets some more interest.

and since there could be a commit or two coming out of this event, there is even more interest.

Not a stalker just thgought there was more to it. I can't imagine flying on my own dime to AA for a tour and some chicken, but I guess everyones diff. If RR can make it into a nice thing more power to him, let's get some commits!!!
