Michigan Football uniform change: 150 logo patch will appear on the jerseys

The logo will be worn as a jersey patch by all FBC and FCS teams. It will be on the upper-right chest, above the conference logo patch, as seen in the following Photoshopped images..

This was apparently announced in 2018 but I just didn't see it reported anywhere that we were participating in this program promoting the 150th year of football.

This was a common practice 50 years ago in 1969 as many teams had some kind of 100 logo on their helmets. Some places with no iconic helmets even changed their logo to just the number 100 inside of a football-

This photo is from 1998 when the Swoosh moved to the center. Our 1995-97 jerseys featured it on the side. Once we got the new uniforms in 1998, the 1995-97 ones became our practice jerseys. So Brady and Henson are in their game uniforms on media day but Jason Kapsner was in his practice jersey.

Practice jerseys/uniforms back in the day were a mixed bag. Often, they were old stock just repurposed. Early in the Nike era, they were putting swooshes on old Russell practice pants (and maybe jerseys, too). Wouldn't be surprising if Brady and Henson got the new stuff, but Jason Kapsner got the old stock.

Wait, wait, wait; that ugly white thing IS THE ACTUAL patch??!?! What the bloody hell?!? I first thought somebody scratched something on a post-it note and put it there to symbolize a patch yet to come. That's horrible, just pure ugly.

This is from the press release from 2018 that went undetected-

The College Football 150th Anniversary will be a celebration for all divisions of the sport, beginning in just 56 days as the calendar turns to 2019. A season-long campaign, the uniform logo program will be the most widespread effort of its kind in the history of college athletics.

At the FBS and FCS levels, 100 percent of those Division I schools have placed orders for jersey patches indicating they will participate next season. CFB150 staff has been working with NCAA, NAIA and junior college institutions to survey membership and more than 200,000 uniform patches and helmet decals have been ordered for delivery in February 2019 for season-long use. The uniform logos are available at no cost to the institutions.

Placement of the logo was approved earlier this year by the NCAA Football Rules Committee. The recommended location is on the right chest, above the conference logo on most FBS and FCS uniforms. Teams at the NCAA Division II and III levels, along with NAIA and junior college schools have the option of utilizing a helmet decal. Patches will also be made available to game officials through their national associations. In addition, the AFCA will partner with CFB150, with coaches wearing them on the field during the first week of the season as part of a co-branded mark.

You can purchase your own CFB150 patch at The Emblem Source.com

Why though? It's not like it's some ad that is bringing in extra revenue for the NCAA. It's just an eye sore that every team's uniforms are going to be subject to

I love everything about that jersey except for the patch.

That maize looks so brilliantly vivid against the blue. Beautiful.
