Michigan Baseball beats Central Florida 3-2
The team plays again on friday against Princeton.
2014!!
They're playing a 4 game series against princeton at the Southern home of Michigan Baseball, Tradition Field.
Home of the NY Mets spring training, who Fred Wilpon, Michigan alum & baseball donor, owns.
They're 4-8-1 but they have played a tough schedule so far.
If they can win the series against Princeton and a game or two at the College of Charleston Tournament, I would call our 22 game non-conference road schedule a success.
Is there any significance to this win, or is this just a general game result thread?
The latter.
Suggestion to the OP would be weekly recap threads instead of game-by-game threads. At least until B1G play.
They lost all 3 games by 1 run. Michigan has some pretty good pitching, but very limited hitting the ball. Jackson Glines and Travis Maezes look solid but not much else hitting wise.
What's wrong with game result threads? We do that with softball.
They've run into some great performances by opposing pitchers, which partly is the reason for the lack of runs. And their top freshman, Jackson Lamb, who had gotten off to a hot start, has missed several games because of a back injury. He was back in the starting lineup tonight and got a key hit in the 7th that led to a run. Juco transfer Jackson Glines had a couple more hits to extend his hitting streak to seven games. He leads the team with a .345 average.
Keep in mind that Bakich is playing a ton of freshman, so I think the team will improve as the season goes on. There were three freshman in the lineup in tonight's game, plus another starting on the mound—Brett Adcock, who went 3 2/3 and didn't give up a run thanks to some help from the man who followed him, Jake Balicki, who picked up the win.
The full recap is here.
snow still on the ground, I have to wonder how they're going to be able to play ball any time soon in Michigan. The forecasters all seem to be calling for below normal temps in the entire region through the next two weeks.
The schedule looks like this for U of M: the Softball team has their home opener on March 18th at Wilpon, the baseball team plays the next day @ EMU just down the road in Ypsi.
The Tigers have a little more time to work with, but not much: their home opener at Comerica is on March 31st.
Spring weather needs to hurry up!
