Michael Gilchrist's coach has a strange comment in this article.

http://www.zagsblog.com/2009/09/29/roscoe-smith-sets-officials/ “He had an unofficial to Michigan,” Boyle said. “I know he had a good time and enjoyed it very much and got to see them workout. I know he’s impresed with Coach [John] Beilein’s ability. He’s one of the better coaching teachers in college basketball. Mike enjoyed getting to watch them in practice. At this point he’s excited going there.” What exactly does he mean by he's excited going there? He was already here so how can he be going there? Wishful thinking is he is a silent commit, or he just said it wrong.

It probably means the writer did a poor job. I should know I'm the king of poor writing. Gilchrist's coach probably meant to say that "... he's excited (after) going there." Parenthesis to clarify intent would have saved false excitement from our faithful and over zealous recruitnicks.

My guess would be He meant on an official visit. This was an unofficial visit. His coach should have said he's excited to be going back there. Just speculation on my part but they are allowed to really pull out all the stops on the official visits.

He actually meant to say: "Hey, don't panic at everything you read and don't get worked up over this or that and pepper Michigan boards with junk" But seriously, please remember one thing: Recruits visit, and right after the visits they are bombarded with questions, calls, texts, twitters and ESP messages. They say very positive things after every visit, and it always seems that a committment is coming any minute. So--recruiting is, in the words of Slammin' Sammy Webb, a marathon, and not a sprint. The ONLY day that means ANYTHING in recruiting is the day they sign their LOI.

Kentucky may not be paying him but I can guarantee Calipari has his buddy William "Worldwide Wes" Wesley all over Gilchrist. Worldwide Wes is the man behind Calipari's recruiting brilliance. Ask Bruce Pearl how he feels Worldwide Wes. Pearl had a commitment from Josh Selby (2010) and Worldwide Wes visited his house one weekend and the commitment was no more. If you couldn't guess, Selby is looking at Kentucky. I believe, Worldwide Wes is from Detroit, or at least lives there. It is believed he was behind the recruitment of Chris Douglas-Roberts (2005 - Detriot Northwestern, Cass Tech).

Illinois hired a former player as an assistant who is buddies with Wes. A bunch of other schools have tried to hire him away. Illinois' recruiting instantly got significantly better after hiring the guy. It went from "Weber can't recruit/can't keep the big in-state guys at home" to a top 15 class in 2009 and a probable top 10 in 2010.
