MGoElsewhere: Seth Talks Crisler on College Football History Podcast
ASU professor Jay Abramson and I talked about Crisler's football legacy over 40 years of his career.
The accompanying info says MGoBlog is the nation's largest independent sports blog!
I'm both surprised—who? us?—and totally not surprised—who else offers so much smarts & so much funny & so much writeration & so much sports?
As much as people like to bitch and moan here, this product and our consumerism makes one thing very clear.
Nobody has it better than us.
You know, I don't really spend a lot of time thinking about this admittedly, but it wouldn't shock me at all if, by a significant margin, MGoBlog had the largest active membership, the highest viewership (however this is measured online) and the most well-rounded coverage (we cover non-revenue far more than any other site I have seen) of anything out there.
I really do have to admit a little buzzing sensation of pride and satisfaction with this community, especially deep in the off-season, during all non-revenue coverage, basketball, hockey and between 9 and 11 football weekends per year.
Not to be a buzzkill, but how much of that is dependent on the word “independent”. Most sports blogs sold out to larger companies, Brian was one of the few (only?) to hold out from the original university sports blogs. That was one thing that always impressed me about Brian, but it does mean you have to take that statement in stride.
Based on uniques, which is the only measuring stick you should use unless your question is "How much volume can I advertise on it." But it's fucking adorable when Eleven Warriors tries to make the claim based on pageviews ever since they shifted from longform to slideshows and 10 non-articles a day.
Thanks, Seth! Especially for the buzzer-beating shout-out to the 1901 Team!
I for one, learned a lot about Fritz “Crissler.”
I am very much looking forward to listening to this. I am the grandson of the M athlete on the advisory board who voted to make Crisler the head coach.
