MGoDrinking for The Game: The Gin Harbaugh and the Bourbon Meyer

I decided to celebrate The Game this year by combining my two favorite hobbies -- obsessing about Michigan football and making new cocktail recipes.  I present to you:  The Gin Harbaugh and (if you must) the Bourbon Meyer.

I'm based in D.C., which is now Big Ten country (thanks Jim Delaney!), so I started (roughly) with ingredients for the gin and bourbon versions of the rickey, D.C.'s original cocktail.  The rickey is the base spirit plus citrus (traditionally lime; I used lemon) and soda water (which I use in the Gin Harbaugh but not the Bourbon Meyer).  The result:

Recipes:  for the Gin Harbaugh, 1 oz. gin, 3/4 oz. Ancho Reyes Verde, 3/4 oz. freshly squeezed lemon juice, and 1/2 oz. simple syrup; mix with ice and strain into a high ball glass full of ice, top off with soda, add winged-helmet lemon peel garnish.

For the Bourbon Meyer, 1 oz. bourbon, 1 oz. Campari, 1/2 oz. Cherry Heering, and 1/2 oz. freshly squeezed lemon juice; mix with ice and strain into a crazy rocks glass (UNIFORMZ) with a large ice cube; garnish with a star anise.  Now pour it out and drink your Gin Harbaughs!

Sounds delicious, unfortunately I ran out of Ancho Reyes Verde, Campari, and Cherry Heering just last night, celebrating my black Friday shopping victory. Shame, really.

Don't know which I hate more. Attaching Urban's name to good Bourbon or ruining good Bourbon by adding anything. Will be sipping Jim Beam neat at game time.
