MGo-Ticket Exchange Notes

Going to change our policy because electronic tickets have made things weirder than they used to be. Umich will say they went digital for other reasons but the big one is they are getting a huge kickback to funnel the secondary market through Stubhub, which charges insanely high fees on both ends. They're not the only game in town, just the one the program is trying to make you use. TicketIQ has a good exchange and is filled with MGoBlog readers because of their sponsorship if you're looking for an alternative.

You can still use umich's tickets system to pass along tickets for free, however, so if you want to skip fees that's how you do it, but you have to be aware of scammers. Those scammers will try like to prey on communities like ours, which is why I haven't encouraged much exchanging on here. Meet in person if all possible. The safest type of deal like this is the "You are sitting with us; I'll meet you at the game and we'll do it there."

So that things don't get out of control...

1. Fans looking to exchange tickets on MGoBlog can start a thread once per week for that game. Please make sure you're dealing with real humans. Testing their MGoKnowledge is a good way to do it.

2. I can usually find a good home for free tickets if you just want yours to go to a Michigan fan or someone you're not going to mind sitting with. You can also offer them on here and give someone a way to contact you (social media DMs seem to be the best way). Or you can email me, but I might not be checking my email on Saturday morning because I'm tailgating. This goes for hockey and basketball tickets too. Use the ticket thread or contact me--with a game like UConn there are going to be lots of freebies floating around and I don't want a lot of threads for it. The one guy who bought tickets for a charity this year is fine.

Seth - once upon a time you did  'ticket watch' posts, giving advice as to when the best time to buy tickets might be for upcoming games.  I always found that very useful, and this year am hoping to get a ticket to the MSU game, but wanted to time it right.  Will that column be making a return this year?

I'll bring it back on occasion. With Brian settling back in and us splitting UFRs I have an opening to go back to one of my old features. I'd like to do a Neck Sharpies this week but when it's relevant I'll do a ticket watch. The right mix for a Ticket Watch is a week when there was a vanilla game that didn't have anything interesting before a big game everyone wants to go to.

Thank you, Seth! My son moved to Ann Arbor about 6 months ago and has never been to a Michigan game. He was raised in the South and has been to about half of the SEC stadiums. I will be helping him find a ticket to at least one game this year.

Is SeatGeek legit? Prices seem to be a bit lower than StubHub.

I am trying to secure 8 tickets for UM/UConn for two long-time lurking MGoDads. In aggregate we'll be taking 5 daughters to their first game at the Big House.

Realistically we will probably target 2 groups of 4 tickets in the same section. Much cheaper than a full 8 together.

Prefer between the 20s to maximize the kiddos' first experience.

Any recommendations are welcome and appreciated.
