Meta: substitute Android app until "real" one ready
For Android users that want to view Mgoblog content on their Android phones, but are not a fan of using their phone browser (it can be a bummer), there is an app called "Pulse" (available in the Android market). It is a news reader, but seems to work very well for viewing information from this site and displays each "story" into a mosaic tile.
The main feed is displayed very cleanly and is properly sized (at least for my DroidX); the Board displays only the first posting, then a link to the website. Though clearly not perfect (some of the board content is not displayed chronologically), users might find it useful until the "real" Android app is developed and released by the MGO-Gods.
- Download Pulse from android market.
- When open, go into menu and search for "Mgoblog"; various mgo sources will come up, including TomVH's twitter feed.
- Add sources by pressing plus icon.
- Can be used as an App or on homescreen(s) as a widget.

It can't be much worse than the browser, I'll be taking a look.

Thanks for the heads up, I'm trying it out. The UI is beautiful, but I'm not sure if I can get past the mgoboard feed error. Maybe it'll get fixed in the future.

somteimes it works perfectly, it sometimes spits out entries from a few months ago, but the main feed works very well.

OOO Thanks for this. I just dl'd Pulse a couple days ago, it doesnt seem to want to auto update the feeds very nicely on my Droid but thats a minor problem.

but what does "meta" mean in this context? I've seen it so many times and have always wanted to ask.

Meta is used to describe something that is self-referential. So, in this context, the meta tag implies that the subject has nothing to do the contents of the website, just the website itself.

I'm still surprised that they haven't came out with an app for android yet? Although this does work okay for now. I currently had a bookmark on my home screen.

on whether you like "Pulse" compared to just using the Browser of which I am currently using but I have to say that I don't mind it that much. Thanks.

For those complaining about browsing mgoblog on their droids, try it on a BB Storm2. I can't wait for the Thunderbolt to come out as I will be upgrading to it. Living in a 4G market sure doesn't hurt.

It sounds you are going to have to wait till the Feb. 24th to get your hands on it. But definitly worth the wait.

Don't get me started on the 4G markets. I have been paying the extra $10 for the EVO for months now and cant even utilize the 4G network. They keep telling me they don't know when it will be in this market area! I could do everything I am doing now on my old Blackberry and would have saved $10 bucks a month.

Thanks! I just installed it. So far so good. It's a pretty cool little app.

I personally don't need an app, though I'd definitely use one if it existed. I have zero problems with my browser. But maybe that's because I don't use the basic Android browser. Download the Dolphin HD browser. It works great.
Oh, and I'm using the Droid X, if that helps.

Thanks, looks like it may work out ok.

I've been downloading various free apps but can't watch or hear simple videos taken in avi format taken with my camera. I've read you have to convert it but seems like an unnecessary hassle when it is easily viewable in wmp, quicktime etc.

I acutally just surf full websites on my phone all the time. The only thing I don't like is the lack of a keyboard.

I like the virtual one on the DX-the keys are big enough and the self correction is pretty good. The phantom skin is great by the way if you are looking to protect it without a case.
