META: So you wanna create a Table in your post/Diary
If you're a regular diarist you know pasting into the WYSIWYG editor directly from Excel creates weird html problems and doesn't look so nice as the pretty MGoTables beloved by bolded alternate personalities everywhere.
Here's a workaround I've been using. If you know a better way, I'm all monitors.
Steps...... | What You Do |
---|---|
Step 1: | Write stuff in Excel |
Step 2: | Create a bolded alterego who asks for a chart |
Step 3: | Open a browser window to Tableizer: http://tableizer.journalistopia.com/ |
Step 4: | Copy and paste your chart into Tableizer and "Tableize It" |
Step 5: | Copy the code you received. |
Step 6: | Click the "Switch to plain editor" link in your Diary page, under the WYSIWYG box. This puts you into html editing mode |
Step 7: | Paste the code from Tableizer |
Step 8: | Delete the first paragraph/section of that code, i.e. the part before it says < table> (this gets rid of Tableizer's formatting) |
Step 9: | Switch back to rich text editor |
Step 10: | Analyze |
Stealing underpants and profit optional.

below the banner (upper right-hand corner), or at http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard. Another way to view threads and keep track of which threads are generating new comments. Always glad to help :)

Tsk, Tsk, looks like somone left out the two oh so important steps; ???, and profit. Seriously though, thanks a bunch for this. I can use excel in my sleep, but I've always been afraid to create a diary, lest I mess it up and look like a complete fool.

If you fixed the table in my diary, thank you.
If you didn't fix the table in my diary, thank you for the steps on how to properly post tables in the future.

---|---|
Step 1: | Find another chart on mgoblog (not hard). |
Step 2: | Copy and paste it into the rich text editor and edit. |
Step 3: | More time for drinking beer. |

Thanks very much for the guidance. I followed your method to massively improve the formatting of my recent ESPN rankings diary.
