Masters day 2

Submitted by Maize in Cincy on

Tournament is really up for grabs now.  Hoffman has a slim lead at -3 still on the back 9.  McGirt is the clubhouse leader at -2.  Moore at -1 after carding the round of the day so far with a bogey free 69.

Guys just hitting the course with afternoon tee times include Mickelson, Rose, Couples, Day and Spieth.

I've been watching the CBSSports streaming all morning, some good action with Stenson, Cabrera and a few others including an amateur who will probably make the cut.  Course still looks tricky with the wind, but some guys have figured it out while many others are having some trouble.  Sergio was tied for the lead at one point, but had a blow up hole that has kicked him back a bit.  Lefty just teed off.

The amateur is 2016 U.S. Amateur champion Curtis Luck, from Australia.  He won the U.S. Amateur at Oakland Hills, beating Michigan's own Nick Carlson in the semifinals in 21 holes.  He hit some ridiculous putts to advance.

to say.  This Masters is kind of dead right now.  It feels like a lot of these guys are kind of going through the motions.  I know the tournament doesn't really start until Saturday (or the back nine on Sunday) but this is kind of a boring golf tournament right now and I never find the Masters boring.  I also think the play has been kind of sub-par.  I know the conditions are difficult but I really haven't seen any play that has really impressed me.

I would tend to agree with you in that I don't expect him to win, but I wouldn't completely discredit him. The three times he played augusta before this year, he finished in the top 30 all three times.

I think you are finding it really boring because it's playing tough but you can't really tell on tv.  Usually when the course plays tough it's dry and the greens are super fast.  It's fun to watch guys struggle in those conditions.  It's rare to see the course so wet and playing long but also be so windy.

This is shaping up to be a loaded leaderboard though, I think this afternoon will be very fun to watch.

On Monday for the first day of practice rounds.  If you've never been there (and you like golf even a little bit), TV does not do it justice.  Felt like I died and went to golf Heaven.  We walked straight to Amen Corner and were fortunate enough to see Jason Day and '88 winner Sandy Lyle stroll up.  We were right on the tee box at 12.  Day's caddy said it was playing 190 and gave Jason an 8 iron.  He didn't seem comfortable but the caddy said "it's the right club."  Hit it into Rae's Creek.  Took the 7 iron and stuck it around 10 feet from the flag.

My next dream is to be able to be there during a tournament round.  The greens are much bigger and more undulating than what you see on TV.  This is still anyone's tournament and we should see some movement by Sunday afternoon.
