The No. 17-ranked University of Michigan softball team (43-11) will head to Lexington, Kentucky, to kick off NCAA Tournament play this weekend (Fri-Sun., May 18-20) at the University of Kentucky's John Cropp Stadium. The Wolverines will open play against Notre Dame at noon on Friday, live on ESPN2.

• Michigan is making its 26th NCAA Tournament appearance (1992-93, '95-2018) and has earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament every season since 1995. It is just the sixth time in program history that U-M will play a regional round on the road. The Wolverines are 81-15 all-time in the NCAA Regional round and have won 18 regional titles.

• The winner of the Lexington Regional will move on to a super regional against the winner of the regional being hosted by Oregon in Eugene, Oregon. That regional consists of No. 1 overall seed Oregon, BYU, Drake and Albany.

Nice job getting out of that inning with limited damage but it sure did seem that Beaubien was a bit amped that first inning. Probably to be expected in her first game in the NCAA tourney. Let's settle in and get it going, ladies!

So, I meant to have a regional preview up last night and then sit down to watch the game today.  But my internet's been down since Wednesday night, and I have only just now been able to get to the library to log on.  What's worse, my TV is down along with the internet, so I'm only following this one online.  Very frustrating - hope the game goes better than my last couple days have been! :P

The bats just aren't good enough. The ND pitcher can barely find the strike zone but we are under everything and popping everything up, maybe one good line drive. Really failing to sit on that changeup even though its the only pitch she is throwing consistently.

Sigh, was really hoping to not have another one of these games where the offense slops around.  I miss 2015 something awful at times like this.  Lots of time left, but Beaubien's going to have to be stellar.

They've had some stumbles lately, but over the course of the season, we've had one of the best defenses in the nation.  If we could just string together a few more hits, this would be an elite team.  Unfortunately, it's a little late in the season to be hoping for that.

Still waiting for this offense to come out of a coma. ND pitcher really isn’t anything special at all.

This team is really challeneged to score runs. Anyone know if they have some offensive firepower coming into the program next year?

Yeah, Shawn. There is.

#7 recruiting class in the country coming in. I'll be doing posts on each player coming in.

Morgan Overaitis (#18), Hannah Carson (#21), Lexie Blair (#28) and Gianna Carosone (#60) are all top-100 players. Lou Allan was #11 last year and has been in the lineup this year as a DH but not every freshman can step in be a Romero.

Michigan torched Holloway early this season. If there's a freshman pitcher more highly touted than Beaubien, it's Holloway. So that was probably her adjustment period to the college game. She's a bit wild, but very hard to hit.

Hopefully they can come back. I don't know the stats, but the loser of the initial 2/3 game probably doesn't win many regionals.
