M Lacrosse @ Rutgers 3PM, airing on BTNGo

Michigan travels to New Jersey today to take on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights (6-6)  in their 4th conference matchup of the season.  Michigan is 3-8 and losers of 7 straight in what has been a very disappointing season marred by devastating injuries. But, they need a W today to keep their season alive.

Wait a second, what? [checks notes] Holy Smokes! It's true - they ARE still alive.  ALERT! ALERT! Michigan's season is still alive! Insanely - Michigan is 0-3 in conference play but, if my calculations are correct, could STILL sneak into the Big Ten tournament with wins in their last two games (and some help of course). If I understand correctly, Michigan has to win against Rutgers this week and Ohio State next week and they need Ohio State to lose to Maryland today and Rutgers to lose to Penn State next weekend. If all that happens Michigan, OSU and Rutgers will all sit at 2-3 in the conference but Michigan will have the tiebreaker over both of them and will earn the 4th spot in the B1G tournament.

The good news is: Rutgers is beatable. They started out fairly well but have since slid back into 'meh' territory. They actually don't have bad losses but they're not nearly as good as the rest of the conference. The bad news is: the Scarlet Knights absolutely destroyed Michigan the last two meetings.

Since fate has tossed them such a generous bone, it would be nice to see Michigan play their ass off today to please the lacrosse gods. Fortune favors the bold. Go get 'em, boys. GO BLUE!

5-5 halftime. Caught the last few minutes - not looking so bad. Their defense - especially in transition seems much improved. They threw the ball away a few times on offense though. But they're still in decent shape right now, though...

And correction: it wouldn't even matter if Rutgers beats PSU next week because they would be at 2-3 in that scenario I mentioned but Michigan would have the tiebreaker over them (that is, if Michigan beats them today, fingers crossed).

Maryland took care of business today and beat Ohio State. So, everything is riding on this second half for Michigan right now.

So...now the season is over. Michigan hung around but Rutgers just scored with 1:34 left to go up 2.

At 2:46 Michigan called a TO to set up a play but then promptly threw it out of bounds. Then they didn't really pressure the ball to get it back and Rutgers scored anyway.

Michigan has had a ton of opportunities in this game but they've turned it over or didn't come up with key groundballs or couldn't capitalize on a good look everytime they had a chance to tie it up or score to keep it close. They played hard but they made a ton of mistakes. Too bad.

Final 11-9.

This is a mess.

1. Games. They are lacrosse games, not matches.
2. Its Conroy, not Conley. If you are going to call for someone to get fired, know their name.
3. Conroy was a long-time Maryland DC and Associate Head Coach to John Tillman. He's had coaching success.

I'm not saying if agree or disagree with the sentiment, but maybe wait until 4/21 before you start posting again, bud.
