M Gym's McCallum repeats as NCAA National Champion

While it was another season of growing pains for the young Michigan team that has won 3 of the last 8 NCAA National Championships, another bright spot once again.

Just as he did last season, Anthony McCallum wins the individual championship on the Vault.

Back-to-back National Championships on Vault for the first time ever at Michigan. McCallum has half of Michigan's Vault National Championships.

He won it with an impressive 15.10 score. Emyre Cole also finished 3rd on Vault for Michigan. Both receive All-American designation.

McCallum is the 31st individual NCAA National Champion in the program's history.

As a team, the final record stands at 8-17. Finished 5th in the NCAA Qualifier round last night.

Next year should be the year where things get back in the shape where we're used to it being with M Gym.

Only two teams have won the last FIVE National Championships. Michigan (2013 & 2014) and Oklahoma (2015-17).

He also won the vault title at the Winter Cup (a national competition that includes members of the national & Olympic teams as well as collegians), but you could only see his run-up, take-off and landing.  The vault itself was too high for the camera to catch.

He was coming off an off-season injury, and noticed he's been having a bit of trouble sticking his landings.  Imagine his score if he hadn't taken that extra step!

Wish the "live videos" were available as replays.  Would love to see Emyre Cole's 3rd place vault as well.  His prelim floor routine was gorgeous, with high difficulty, but he also had a bad landing that took him out of the floor finals.

A super-talented group of youngsters.  If they can avoid this season's injury plague and gain more consistency, the future looks promising.
