Isn't Purdue scheduled to play Illinois on the 10th?

Like MLB spring training: split squad.
If true, we won't complain that Purdue gets the advantage of extra experience for all its players.

Yes. As the schedules stand right now this is impossible. Either 1) the Purdue v Illinois game had an easy date to reschedule it to and that hasn’t been announced yet, or 2) the Twitter announcement is incorrect and M will play Purdue on Tuesday the 8th making for a home-and-home that week.
Either way M badly needs the game to be played so this is great news.

I'm not sure its such great news. This has the team playing 4 games in 8 days and to keep the ncaa tournament dream alive has to go at minimum 2-2 in those games. If slotting the purdue game in costs us our legs and winning the OSU game it could be a disaster. Its a lot better to go 2-1 over @purdue, PSU, OSU with wins over PSU and OSU then it is to go 1-3 with 2 losses to purdue and a loss to osu at the end of the stretch.
Sure beating Purdue would be helpful for the resume but honestly I think there is a better shot the team loses to both Purdue and then OSU at home because of tired legs than they beat both.

I think it is highly like they lose a couple we don’t foresee and that marquee wins are going to be absolutely necessary. I could be wrong, but I see the addition of the Purdue game as a net gain for tourney prospects. They dug themselves a hole and heroics will be necessary to get out of it.

Purdue and Illinois moved their game to the 8th - see the tweet shown below.

Ok that settles that thanks. That is probably the most favorable way it could have fallen for Michigan also. That is a tough week for Purdue. Michigan has an irritating game at Penn State on the 8th but at least they will be headed home after that.

Tough week for purdue? That's a silly tough week for us!

I hope Warde waits until after the game this weekend to commit to rescheduling State. Michigan wins and refuse to do so. Their fanbase would froth for years. It would be awesome.
January 27th, 2022 at 11:12 AM ^
Uh, no thanks. Ducking a rematch is just a version of chickening out. Why else refuse to reschedule, unless you're afraid of losing? It'd be embarrassing

Just an FYI, state writers and fans have been advocating for not rescheduling ever since the cancelation. This may change with the results Saturday and/or their chances of a title. If we win they might want a shot at revenge and if they need the win for conference title hopes. When the cancelation happened they all thought they would have won anyway, don't want to give us the home game because they still have theirs, know we need quality wins. They also rightly point out that the schedule isn't very conducive to rescheduling.

So because State fans are being irrational, we need to be s well. I don't give a shit about the fans. Let the athletic departments handle this. As they will.

Is this our call? I think it's up to the league office.
January 27th, 2022 at 10:22 AM ^
We've got @Purdue, @PSU, Purdue, and then OSU in 7 days. Give me 2-2 for that and I'll take it.
January 27th, 2022 at 10:36 AM ^
i think we need 3-1 to have a reasonable chance to finish near the top of the conf.
January 27th, 2022 at 12:17 PM ^
I don't think it's realistic for us to contend for the top of the conference. If that's the goal, then yeah. Probably need to win both home games and beat PSU on the road. But I just want to make the tournament. For which, 2-2 would probably suffice.
January 27th, 2022 at 10:35 AM ^
that's the smart way to do it, since both teams would have a few days to prepare for game 1 and still have a day a practice to tweak before the rematch. earlier game prep should still be fresh.
January 27th, 2022 at 10:54 AM ^
If the Michigan State game does not get rescheduled, that leaves us with 12 games left. We would need to go seven and five in those 12 to make the tournament in my opinion. And that’s not going to be easy.

In order to make the NCAAs I think the team needs to win the first 4 in the list and 3 of the remaining 8 or 9. That will result in a record of 17-12 , 11-8 B1G, 5-8 Quad 1. For reference, last year Rutgers made the tournament with 16-12, 10-10 B1G, 5-10 Quad 1.
Should win:
- vs Nebraska 2/1 Quad 4
- vs Rutgers 2/23 Quad 3
- vs Iowa 3/3 Quad 1
Might win:
- @ PSU 2/8 Quad 2
- @ Iowa 2/17 Quad 1
- vs Illinois 2/27 Quad 1
- vs OSU 2/12 Quad 1
- vs Purdue 2/10 Quad 1
- vs MSU ??? Quad 1
Difficult to win:
- @ MSU 1/29 Quad 1
- @ Purdue 2/5 Quad 1
- @ Wisc 2/20 Quad 1
- @ OSU 3/6 Quad 1

Well...one thing is for sure: this team does have the schedule in front of it to get right back into the thick of the tourney.
January 27th, 2022 at 11:46 AM ^
with only three conference losses, they are still in the hunt for the B1G championship. Unlikely, I know, but still, they only have one more loss than the 1st place team.
January 27th, 2022 at 11:53 AM ^
Yes, perhaps unlikely -- but this is proving once again to be a "weird" season in conference play, where no outcomes are a given. Nothing wrong with staying positive. Do I expect us to win at MSU? No, not really. Would I be surprised to see us win at MSU? No, not really!
January 27th, 2022 at 11:52 AM ^
With this revised schedule, what could this mean for the yet-to-be-rescheduled MSU game? Any of you schedule analysts out there have any predictions of where that could fall now? As someone from out of state who had tickets for the MSU game, I'm hoping to get back for the rescheduled game.
January 27th, 2022 at 11:53 AM ^
Tuesday, March 1st is really the only date that could work without having to move other games around.

Looking at the reamining schedule I can see UM getting to 16 to 18 wins b4 B10 Tournament,,18 would require winning a road game they are not expected to..If they can be at 16 or 17 and win a game in the tourney thy are in win 2 tournament gamers and its a done deal..good Michigan has to show up
