M B Ball

M B-ball looks pretty good this year. I haven't really seen a decent team since the days of Macio Baston, Robert Traylor, Maurice Taylor, and Louis Bullock. I think thats there names. : )

This year's team certainly looks better than any of the teams we've had for the past 7-10 years, but let's not fool ourselves, some of this is fool's gold. I mean anytime a team takes 41 three point shots in 1 game, that tells you that there is some serious issues that need to be addressed in the post, and poor decision making from the guards as well. Manny Harris.........what can I say,the kid is an enigma. The thing he does best, which is going to the rim and utilizing his quickness and athleticism, is the thing he does the least, which is starting to be a huge problem. Maybe he didn't get the memo........"Manny you don't have an outside shot". Yet he constantly takes contested threes when he's off-balance. No question about it, the kid has amazing potential, but Coach B has got to get him on ship mentally.

I think if you go back and look, we take 30-40 threes every game. That's what Beilein coaches. You're not going to see many back to the basket post players in his system. He wants guys that can play all over and shoot. And from what I can tell, they have the green light. As for Harris, he's only a sophomore and is 10 times better than last year. I agree that he should drive more, but I think he draws the other teams best defenders and they all know he wants to drive. JLo, did those guys go to school at UM? I thought the memory of their existence had been erased from the record books....

Looking at the stats, we average about 25.6 three point attempts per game. As a percentage, 45% of our shots are from the 3 point line, and I'm good with that because that is the make-up of our team. Today was just ridiculous though, we took 41 threes out of the 62 total attempts from the field, that's nearly 67% our shots coming from deep, that's WAY TOO MANY. Coach B has to get that under control, Manny in particular, he doesn't shoot the ball well enough to lead the team in 3 point attempts.

I agree, it's too many. Sims has developed a fine low-post game, but we don't give him the ball down there enough. Manny and Grady are also at their best penetrating, not jacking up 3's. I'm all for Novak/LLP/Douglass firing from downtown, though.
