A Little Fluff About the DBs
From what the article states, it seems that Gerg's system gives help to the defensive backfield so they're not on an island. Also, as a general thought, it's hard not to read comments from this year's team and not think back to the problems the defensive staff had in 2008. That's typical when coordinators change, but that doesn't mean it's not frustrating to consider that it helped lead to 3-9:

I am most concerned about the secondary this year, both because of attrition and because of their shortcomings last year. I sure hope they can improve...and if they can, I think that will surely help relieve some of the burden on Tate and the offense.

I'm holding on to some optimism for this year. I'm of the mindset that last year was just a lot of things falling in the right (or wrong?) place at once.
Of our two starting CB's, one was Morgan Trent and the other was playing hurt (with the backup being a frosh). Nuff Said.
As a result of our poor safety play, they were targeted and unable to respond because of the aforementioned shortcomings. Hopefully our star, Warren, returns to full health, our frosh develops into a Studly Star Sophomore, and Trent carries around DVD's of him running down Percy Harvin.

I wish there was more actual schematic detail in there to explain, but it sounds like Warren likes it, which is a huge plus. Hopefully it leads to good things.
Just getting Warren healthy should kick start the defensive backfield. Or, at least I hope so.
