Submitted by scanner blue on February 29th, 2020 at 9:14 AM

The women take on Albany at noon followed by the men at 3pm against St. John’s. Dollar admission,  hotdogs, drinks chips... means you and your kid could see a game and have lunch for about $6!! Cheaper than dirt! Weather should be sunny and 32 deg.....perfect lax weather.

Thanks for posting! Too bad its not a little bit warmer out there. I'm on the western edge of B1G country and we have a nice warm front moving through - its supposed to hit 53 today!

The games will be broadcast on BTN+ as well, if you have that subscription.

The men's team has a chance to take a major "leap" today (get it) against St. John's and get a win they really need. The Red Storm are 2-2 and aside from a 7-point loss to Rutgers to open the season, all of their games have been decided by 2 goals or less. They're not particularly big or athletic but have shown an ability to score; their top two points leaders are small but quick twin brothers from Long Island. Michigan will have to keep them in check and win the possession battle.

Last week's game for Michigan, was uh, not great. They lost to Merrimack, last year's D-II national champions giving them their first victory at the division 1 level. I didn't see the game so I tried to piece together what happened from the box score. Michigan was much improved on man-up (4/5) and clears (16/17) but they lost the faceoff battle (18-11) and ground balls (31-27) and turned it over 12 times. They also began and ended the game on the wrong side of 4-1 Merrimack runs and didn't score in the last 7:50 of the game. The good news is that St. John's is a winnable game.

The good news is the rest of the B1G, projected to be a murder-conference at the beginning of the year, had rough outings last week as well: #1 Penn State lost to Yale, Rutgers lost by one to Loyola and Hopkins got dropped by UNC. Maryland and Ohio State have also lost games already this year as well. The middle and back parts of the conference look much softer now and Michigan's goals are still in front of them. But they need to get back on track starting today. GO BLUE!!

I was at the Merrimack game.  I was really impressed with the Merrimack offense.  They played 2 man games on the wings and had two big and athletic attack who ran it to perfection.  On top of that, their spacing was fantastic as they were always dodging into open space.  Really credit the Merrimack coaching staff.  What they put together in O really stresses the defense.  Would have liked to see us try a zone as their motion cleared out tons of room for their dodgers.  They didn’t score a ton off of feeds, but instead it was the dodger coming off a pick.  He was either sweeping into the cone with lots of grass in front of him, or going down the alley/wing and if their big attack got even a step he was strong enough to hold off the defender and finish in tight.

Michigan wins 16-11 in what seemed like a comfortable W (I couldn't watch it), something they sorely needed. They go to California for spring break next week and they'll take on Yale in Costa Mesa on Saturday. Good response today - keep it moving in the right direction the next few weeks. GO BLUE!!
