He can't be any worse than the last guy.
Hold my beer?
Is he also a comedian/masturbator?
Asking the real questions
Aren't we all?
....but not with the outstanding head of....hair?
Will he get the standard B1G 32 year contract like the last guy got.....?
A 20 year NFL vet with one of the strongest voices in the league, this is a slam dunk hire. If anyone has a Delaney > Warren take, air it out.
I’m a lifelong Vikings fan. This is considered a big loss to them. He should be a major upgrade.
If he is anything like my cousin, he pushes his strong voice to make himself sound scarier.

Would become the first African American commissioner of a Power 5 Conference.
Only strike I found is that he got his JD from Notre Dame.
Wow, couldn't get into MIchigan
the grift king is dead, long live the grift king
FWIW, Kevin Warren has an outstanding reputation both in the NFL and here locally in the Twin Cities.
I'm guessing he'll do fine.
And at least he's not Gene Smith.
He's not Gene Smith. That's damning with faint praise. :)
I recently read where some people think he would be an ideal NFL commissioner if Roger Goodell were to be abducted by aliens. One can hope...
I just want him to be fair and actually make decisions that are good for big ten fans rather than making decisions that are purely financially driven. Oh and if he doesn't suck up to OSU as much as Delaney did, I'll be happy about that too.
Exactly this.
Hard for him to be much worse than the last idiot.
Seems like the exact wrong kind of person to manage college athletics, but wtf do I know. Dolla dolla bill yo.
I, like virtually all other Big Ten fans, am more than happy to see Delaney go. However, it would be nice to get someone in charge whose positive attributes are more than just "is not Delaney". Now, I know exactly jack squat about this Warren guy so I am not saying that is all he is bringing to the table. But just reading through the comments thus far what I've read is:
- 20 year NFL vet
- One of strongest voices in the league (i.e. NFL)
- Big loss to the Vikings
- Outstanding reputation in the the Twin Cities
- Considered a potential replacement for Roger Goodell
Nothing in that list that I would consider to be a ringing endorsement. Answer these questions correctly and then I may start to get a little more enthused:
- What are your thoughts on expansion - past and/or future?
- Would you consider reducing commercials during game broadcasts?
- Do you think that the Big Ten should hold member institutions accountable for their actions in dealing with (or not dealing with) off the field conduct issues?
- Do you feel that the NCAA needs to undergo some major reforms?
- Do you feel that maintaining strict amateurism rules in a league that writes a check for $25 million each year to members institutions is problematic?
"Would you consider reducing commercials during game broadcasts?"
Answer that question the wrong way and the next thing you know, you're having lunch with Bob Sugar.
can we watch hockey games again?
I like the move...new blood is needed IMO.
Was fully prepared for Gene Smith or Jim Tressel. So I’m pleasantly surprised with this hire.
Don’t know much about the guy other than what’s been posted here on the board. Seems to be well-liked in Minnesota, so I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt on most everything until he gives me a reason not to. Just don’t go and bring another Rutgers-esque university into this conference and we’re good.
That was my only ever real gripe with Delaney. Was clear at that point that he didn’t give a shit about finding schools that were a cultural fit, academic fit, or athletic fit. Rutgers brings none of that to the table. They just happen to be within an hour of the biggest media market on Earth. Their one saving grace.
Cool, first P5 black commish.
Would have liked someone younger, hes 55 also once worked for the Lions. Maybe he has it going on and new to abandon the Lions.
