A 20 year NFL vet with one of the strongest voices in the league, this is a slam dunk hire. If anyone has a Delaney > Warren take, air it out.

FWIW, Kevin Warren has an outstanding reputation both in the NFL and here locally in the Twin Cities.

I'm guessing he'll do fine.

And at least he's not Gene Smith.

I just want him to be fair and actually make decisions that are good for big ten fans rather than making decisions that are purely financially driven. Oh and if he doesn't suck up to OSU as much as Delaney did, I'll be happy about that too.

I, like virtually all other Big Ten fans, am more than happy to see Delaney go. However, it would be nice to get someone in charge whose positive attributes are more than just  "is not Delaney". Now, I know exactly jack squat about this Warren guy so I am not saying that is all he is bringing to the table. But just reading through the comments thus far what I've read is:

  • 20 year NFL vet
  • One of strongest voices in the league (i.e. NFL)
  • Big loss to the Vikings
  • Outstanding reputation in the the Twin Cities
  • Considered a potential replacement for Roger Goodell

Nothing in that list that I would consider to be a ringing endorsement. Answer these questions correctly and then I may start to get a  little more enthused:

  • What are your thoughts on expansion - past and/or future?
  • Would you consider reducing commercials during game broadcasts?
  • Do you think that the Big Ten should hold member institutions accountable for their actions in dealing with (or not dealing with) off the field conduct issues?
  • Do you feel that the NCAA needs to undergo some major reforms?
  • Do you feel that maintaining strict amateurism rules in a league that writes a check for $25 million each year to members institutions is problematic?

Was fully prepared for Gene Smith or Jim Tressel. So I’m pleasantly surprised with this hire.

Don’t know much about the guy other than what’s been posted here on the board. Seems to be well-liked in Minnesota, so I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt on most everything until he gives me a reason not to. Just don’t go and bring another Rutgers-esque university into this conference and we’re good.

That was my only ever real gripe with Delaney. Was clear at that point that he didn’t give a shit about finding schools that were a cultural fit, academic fit, or athletic fit. Rutgers brings none of that to the table. They just happen to be within an hour of the biggest media market on Earth. Their one saving grace.

Would have liked someone younger, hes 55 also once worked for the Lions. Maybe he has it going on and new to abandon the Lions.
