Je'Ron Stokes Interview

Submitted by Drake on
On his progress as a freshman outside receiver: "The progression has been great. I've been learning a lot, just working with Coach [Tony] Dews and the quarterbacks, really getting a feel for the college style game. Being out here every day has gotten me a lot better. I'm starting to get more comfortable and settled in the offense ? every day I'm getting more comfortable and relaxed." On playing the outside receiver position: "Being on the outside, you've got to be able to win the one on one matchups. You'll be going against cornerbacks all day. Being out here going against Boubacar [Cissoko] and Donovan {Warren], it allows me to just see how it's going to be in a game. Just being out here every day, I'm going to be able to make plays. We've got three great quarterbacks who can get you the ball, and it's going to be a really good season." On the depth and competition at his position: "We call ourselves the crew, and being part of the crew, we compete every day. Every day we're pushing each other to get better and better. Right now it's still early and we've got two weeks of camp, but we're just working to get better. Coach Dews will make the final decision on who starts Sept. 5. Right now it's all about competing, having a good time, learning and making plays." On developing a chemistry with the quarterbacks: "We rotate a lot. Getting reps with the ones, twos and threes, you get a chance to get a feel for each quarterback. Doing extra work you get a chance to see their different styles and tendencies. Being here since the beginning of June, I've got a pretty good feel for everybody. We're all just jelling as a team and a quarterback/receiver unit." http://michigan.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=979448

I like the fact that his position group is self-identifying by naming themselves the "crew"; it reminds me of the USC running backs who called themselves the "Stable". This speaks very highly to our team chemistry, depth, competition, etc.... all things that RR has been trying very hard to institutionalize in the program.

just SOUNDS like a name you'd give to a guy you give 100 attributes on a football game. i, for one, will be rooting for him to destroy during his time here just because his name sounds like someone who will destroy. /advanced analysis

Has gone under the radar in this incoming class, but he may end up having one of the most upsides. Good athlete who can go up and get the ball.

Which is really puzzling to me, considering his was in the top 50 overall on Rivals for most of the time he was committed to Tennessee. He was a hell of a steal for RR and company. Thank you Phil Fulmer for retiring.

but the offense genuinely looks confident with a healthy mindset. The defense is really starting to concern me though, with all the highlights from the offense we see.

Hallelujah a post about someone other than the Qbs! Im really excited about our receiving corps this year. Been hearing a couple of negatives about Stonum recently, hopefully he gets over his hurdles and performs but if not I think Stokes and a couple other guys are gonna keep us in the clear with that position. Love the quote about "the Crew," hopefully they can make room for the boat load of guys coming in next year. I wanna see Michigan's proud tradition of great receivers continue stronger than ever.
