Interesting note about Zach Hyman on Hockey Night in Canada
Why would he do that? He will want to get in the NHL as fast as possible and get an NHL salary. Detroit would not be his best option.
Kevin Hayes turned down Chicago last year to go to the Rangers for this reason.

you're spot on ghost. If he became a free agent it's all about going to the team with the best chance of playing time. Most people don't realize that on that entry deal if he's in the AHL he's making 70k vs NHL at 900k give or take.
Would look good with a Maple Leaf on his chest

Toronto can't sign anymore college free agents this year, they signed a guy earlier this week and are at the 50 contract limit.

He won't go to the Wings because he'd sit in the minors for 2-3 years. He could get to the NHL much quicker elsewhere, and I imagine Florida probably has a quick route. But he could probably pick a team that's a contender for a playoff spot almost every year and still get to the NHL fairly quickly.
Yeah, everyone loves to rip Florida because of their market, but it's a really good place for players to build or rebuild a career right now.
Not to mention the team is competitive this season.
I think Zach would do really well in Florida.
A nice facility as well. Got a first class tour from former Panther (and a part of the Gretzky trade, going from LA to Edmonton) Martin Gelinas a few years back.
