Indiana keeps pace with Michigan SB

Submitted by MGoSoftball on

The Indiana Hoosiers kept pace with Michigan softball for 1st place by taking 2 from Illinois at Urbana today.  The first game was a mercy rule 8-0 win in 6 innings and the second game Indiana won 3-1.

Those 2 wins against Illinois were key for Indiana because Illinois is currently ranked 5th in the Big Ten.  Indiana has remaining on their schedule home vs Iowa, at Northwestern and they close the Big Ten schedule with a home series against Purdue.  Purdue is currently ranked 3rd, while Iowa is ranked 4th.

So Indiana has a tougher remainder to their schedule compared to us.  We play the bottom half of the conference for the remainder of the season.

Don't overlook that both Minnesota and Wisconsin are resurgent teams.  They have lots of young players and young first year pitchers.  By now, these pitchers are pretty good, especially Minnesota's.  I would rate their pitching as better than ours at this stage, given the absence of Taylor.

Has anyone else heard the use of "Hoosiers" as meaning white trash or hillbilly?  Apparently in Missouri at least that is what a Hoosier is.  I love it.
