I want to stream all Michigan games , Ideas on how to do this ?
So I am finishing my masters degree in May and start working fulltime in September
I plan on getting direct tv and the sports package which will get me cbs college sports and fox sports detroit in the fall . I live in Wisconsin. Plus i will have big ten network and all the espn channels.
I feel a Michigan network would be cool to do for the fans of mgoblog
So what is the best way to stream the games to the masses .
I know how to get the streams on my computer, but don't know how to stream to the masses from my tv.
Somebody mentioned a Slingbox ?
Especially for Hockey ( may be tough since i don't have AA comcast)
Any idea's would be helpful
Thanks

Justin.tv and ustream are websites that let u live stream.

He never misses a game, he must know.

Justin.tv and ustream usually get shut down with the quickness. But I +1 you for trying to do this. Also, I'm not sure a slingbox would let hundreds of people connect to the same stream.

My slingbox only allows one connection at a time.

Get a slingbox, my brother bought one and it is hooked up to my basement tv, he uses it to watch all wings games online from his house in OK. Of course you would need someone local to the area here to help you out.
Slingbox has the cleanest stream that i have seen and i recommend that. Just my e-pinion

Well you would have to get a RGB/RGA or HDMI input on your computer. Then you would have to hook your direct TV box up to the computer through one of those inputs.
Once you have it on your computer, how you broadcast it is a whole other deal. Justin.tv is a real popular one, but you may run into issues because now that they are a larger site they sometimes shut down streams with live sports like that. There's also Ustream and a few other sites that you can do a live stream. I would probably do a justin.tv stream and just see if it gets shut down.
the problem with slingboxes is that they only allow a certain number of connections and are highly dependent on your computer speed/internet speed at home. Justin.tv and other sites like that use their own servers to handle most of the traffic therefore provide a must faster stream for the masses.

I live in Texas and would love to be able to watch basketball games without having to go to the bar all the time.

Would espn3.com work?
January 17th, 2011 at 1:49 PM ^
It'll be near impossible. Even if u have unlimited bandwidth, you probably don't have the upload speeds to make it work. Plus, it's guaranteed that your ISP will give u upload rates significantly lower than what u bought. Especially at normal hours. Ur just not going to be able to stream to more than 2,3 people at even 320p without glitches and choppiness.

this is just rubbish. Go to Justin.tv and you'll find how wrong you are. Maybe if you're trying to host it from your house...but I don't think that's what he's talking about.

I thought he did mean streaming from his house. If he uses someone else's servers to stream, then I could see it working. Honestly, I thought he wanted to send the feed into a tuner cad on his comp, and then allow others to stream from that (live), so that everyone could watch it. My bad.

A generous idea, but it has a few flaws.
First of all it's illegal but we'll ignore that
Second you would need some impressive bandwidth to stream tv to 'masses' from a home connection

again, no he doesn't. All you need to do is stream it to Justin.tv or any other web streaming site and you're able to have thousands connected to your stream.

Go to http://www.myp2pforum.eu/
They have lots of information about streaming live sporting events.

+1
I've been trying to dig into how their volunteers do it. I don't have cable but I was able to watch every game from the combo of that site and espn3.com
A Michigan Streaming Channel would be saaweeet!

When I need to do this I go to justin.tv. It may get shut down but if you sign up you can communicate with others and you will find another stream. Never fails.
January 17th, 2011 at 2:07 PM ^
I was thinking of setting it up possibly as a streamtorrent like they do over at www.myp2p.eu
That way more of the masses can see it, just by downloading it, and then I would post it over at www.myp2p.eu
that way more access
Thats how i get to watch all the tigers games for free during the season
www.atdhe.net pretty much shows all red wings and Pistons games already !
just running thru some ideas and stuff of whats best
I see alot of stuff get shut down at justin.tv which makes me worry.
Their is no official Big Ten Network stream i have found out their besides the one thru their official website which you have to pay for.
and if www.atdhe.net or channelsurfing.net does not have it, your screwed.
so Will hit the people up over at myp2p.eu and check out their forum and figure out whats best with setup and what i will need
from their I think I will keep people posted on my progress and stuff
But I think us having an official Michigan styream ( for games we can't get thru BTN , FSD and Comcast are overdue)
As for games on Espn3 and atdhe and stuff. I'll let them handle those games.
I want to do games which are harder to get and find !
Thanks for your support

is nice but excludes all the Mac users..
While justin.tv and ustream are popular and streams get taken down, some other streaming sites existe, mainly veetle, zonein, livestream, freedocast, the options abound.

If you somehow pull this off, I will be STOKED. I live in MT and anything BTN or FSN Detroit is out of my range.

Please include these games too if you can for those of us that don't have access to these channels!

Nothing to see here. Whoops. Thanks for doing this though. Would be very helpful to all

And for anyone from the Athletic Department reading this and grumbling, I'd like to remind you that you have a hugely national and international alumni base and it would behoove you in future media contracts to make sure they include a streaming option. I have happily bought several streaming games from B10 or other athletic departments when given the option.

Stupid internet lag

So nice I posted twice.

exactly why i want to do this
the AD and bigten don't stream every game , especially hockey
A ton of games especially non conference that get no stream right now, especially hockey !
January 17th, 2011 at 4:39 PM ^
im fairly certain buying a capture card and hooking that up to your computer will allow you to stream to justin.tv or whatever source you want but im not really sure how. good luck though
