Haylie's Gem Powers M Softball to finish sweep of Penn St. 6-0

Submitted by MGoSoftball on

Haylie Wagner looked like she was in playoff form today as she dominated Penn State at Alumni Field.  She blanked the Lions and allowed only 2 hits, with 5ks and 1BB.  Today was one of her best outings of the year.

The offense was slow to get into gear but they scored 6 runs off 13 hits.  Things didn't look very good for the home team as we had bases loaded with 0 outs in the 3rd inning and could only muster 1 run.  Typically in that situation you want to trade an out for a run.  So with bases loaded and no outs, coaches like to see 3 runs scored.

Eight of the nine starters managed to get hits.  But it was Amy who came up large in the 6th inning by going deep into the RF stands with Ashley on base.  Amy finished the day 2 for 2 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored.  Colie came out of her shell today.  She went 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs while batting in the 9 hole.  Lindsay went 3 for 4 with a run scored as well.

Overall, a very good game against an average team.  However a win is a win in softball.  We cannot take anything away from our girls.  We need to get real hot, real quick and stay hot if we want a #1 seed and host a Regional.

We travel to Bloomington next week to face last year's B1G runner up, Indiana.  Indiana split with ohio and are currently losing to them in the bottom of the 6th in Columbus.

For Michigan softball. Yes it is penn state and we are now 50-7 against them. But we have lost to some mediocre teams this year. Hope this signals an end to those types of loses.

Thoroughly enjoyable game and worth every penny of the $1 admission. Spotted Roh, Beyer, Omameh, Lewan, Hardaway, and a dude on the 1st base side in a queme Los barcos mgoshirt
