Guh... our recruits!?

Submitted by IBleedMaizeNBlue on

Where are our recruits going? Is this the first sign of a mass exodus from the class of 2009? When should we start to panic?

Can losing Bryce McNeal be potentially good in that it frees up a scholarship spot that one of the Bowden or WVU decommits can snatch up?

McNeal may have decomitted but we are still going to push very hard to have him sign his LOI with us come February.  There's no reason to panic; our class will be fine.  If ND can pull a #2 class with their 3-9 record last year, then we shouldn't have a problem maintaining our class this year.

I don't think you can point to Notre Dame still reeling in a terrific recruiting class despite their horrific season last year and expect that to happen at UM, WTB. No matter what any of us thinks of Charlie Weis and his coaching ability, he has something that captures the imagination of many big time recruits and that is Super Bowl rings. Rich Rod doesn't have that luxury. The "bling" speaks loudly to potential recruits.

...Willie Haulstead's offer.  That's the risk you run when you decommit.  All of the guys that have decommited have been talking about taking trips long before the Toledo or even Illinois game.

And losing McNeal is only good if by some miracle Rueben Randle decides to come to U-M.  If Holloman wants in, they'd make room for him with or without McNeal.

There is a difference people need to realize between ND's situation and oru situation. Sure ND had a lot of inexperience last year and they went 3-9. They are better this year because that inexperience got some experience. The difference is that a lot of our inexperience guys are guys that have sat on the bench several years and proven they arent that good. Harrison was a nickel back for 3 years and never made it to a true starter. Steve brown choked away a spot. savoy should bne on the bench, etc. There players were a lot of freshman that had been recruited and were elite talent by Weiss. These guys are not RR's players yet. Our trun around will take a lot longer I truely believe.  Next year we will be in the same boat ND was in last year with a little more experience, so expect a crummy bowl. This will not be as quick as you think, unless we hit an absolute HR at the QB in this recruiting class

I don't think McNeal leaving is good, but there are a handful of people in that class that I would be more upset about.  We had a ton of great offensive players in the 2008 class, so losing the guys on offense (other than QB) in this class, doesn't hurt as much.  The highly rated defensive guys are the ones that would crush me with a decommit.

1, given the yeoman job of recruiting RR did in the last frenzied month or so in between his hiring and Signing Day, I'm hardly worried.  Snake oil FTW.  Odoms....T-Rob The Sexy, Barnum, and convincing McGuff to stick around.

2, losing a verbal hurts, but you don't really have anyone anyway until Signing Day.  Verbals are worth the paper they're written on.  And if you held a gun to my head and told me I had to pick a position to lose via a decommitment this year, I'd pick WR every time.
