Freshman Pitcher Sarah Schaefer throws Perfect Game

Submitted by RoseInBlue on

A freshman softball pitcher was perfect today.  Although not the freshmen you probably would have guessed.  Freshman Sarah Schaefer threw a 5-inning perfect game against Robert Morris (on her birthday no less!!) in the 1st slate of Michigan softball's double header today as the Wolverines took down RMU 14-0.  It was a shortened game, sure, but is it really her fault that her teammates scored 14 runs in 5 innings?

Stat Line:  5 IP, 0 H, 0 BB, 0 R, 6 SO

Kind of weird stat: the wolverine lineup scored 14 runs on only 9 hits and 12(!!) walks.  Seriously, at one point, an RMU pitcher walked the bases loaded and then proceeded to walk in 4 runs.

The scoring started in the 1st inning with Madison Uden and Taylor Swearingen both hitting 2-run homeruns and really just ballooned from there.  The team would then score 1 in the 2nd, 3 in the 4th and 6 in the 5th to run-rule the completely over-matched Robert Morris Colonials.

Reading the headline, I was certain it was Beaubien... I agree with first responder... update headline with perfect bday girl’s name. What an accomplishment! Another awesome Wolverine weekend... moments away from hockey selections, too. Go blue!

Bright future with the pitching staff. Hopefully they can continue the tradition of hosting super regionals and making visits to OKC. We have another top pitcher coming in soon too, IIRC? Anyone know who/when?

So she will have 2 years together with Beaubien and Schaefer.

She is around the 5th ranked pitcher in Flo sports rankings.

Don't remember her name, but she was mentioned in a thread at the beginnng of the season.

Her main high school rival enrolled at OSU this year, so that will be side story to follow.

Hell yeah--the Beaubien/Schaefer combo is going to be lethal! As long as they hit, this season can turn out nicely. Take the B1G, get the berth, and by then the freshman won't be freshman anymore.
