I fully expect all games to be in this format in the years to come. But with the added bonus of traditional commercial breaks as well.

More late-stage commercial-supported sports broadcasts.
You have advertisers willing to pay anything to reach live viewers, with the collapse of appointment television.
This supports rights fees that keep rising. Yet young people, the coveted advertiser demographic, are less likely to get into sports in the first place.
So, yes, late-stage something. But what's next? I don't think it's political. Just a hard-to-watch product with more and more ads. I'm skipping today. The last year or so, I haven't even watched non-Michigan college football because of the ads.

As someone who works in marketing/advertising for a major corporation, this is absolutely the daily reality. Football eyeballs are absolutely precious nowadays.
