Good to see James Ross moving to bigger programs. Hope to see him again in Ann Arbor in the future!

Always good to see former players succeeding even when not as a player.

Also helps create a potential pipeline for coaching hires in the future, but we can focus on that next time there's a coaching slot open on the defensive side of the ball.

That's pretty quick promotions. Coaches must see something special in him. I always liked him and Brian had one of those very Brian comments about him early on that'll always stick with me, even if I can't quote it correctly.

"If 10 guys are trying to decide where to eat Ross would have them at the restaurant and seated before the rest of the guys even started talking." Something like that, but with Brian flair.

i think mid-tier is FCS and maybe D-II if you're looking at all of college football from a 30,000 foot perspective.  there are the occasional D-III guys who make an NFL roster, same with NAIA which actually has somewhat of an 'upper' and 'lower' division to it.  NAIA can also offer athletic scholarships (as can D-II and FCS, of course) but D-III cannot.  D-III is limited to academic scholarships which are based solely on grades and test scores - you can't 'juice' a scholarship offer to entice a player to come to a D-III school.  still, you find some decent football at the D-III level.  a few years ago we watched hope play alma and it was enjoyable.  the guys are all a bit smaller/shorter/lighter/slower than upper divisions but it is still far and away different than even the very best high school teams.

Tiny inside scoop here: Pete Stuursma is a good dude and a good coach. Won 5 State Championships in a row at East Grand Rapids and has vastly improved Hope’s football program over the last few years.

My scoop: Ross was hesitating after getting the call from Fickell because of loyalty and his recent promotion to D coordinator. Stuursma told him he had to go, had to take the opportunity—it’s the business they’re in.
