Everyone Murders

Joe Roberson was no Dave Brandon.  He also had a number of other terrific qualities, and kept the athletic department on a steady course throughout his tenure.  He was very direct and forceful, but never self-aggrandizing.

I'm sorry to hear of his passing, and wish his family the best through this difficult time.

A former colleague (now ten years passed away himself) was a contemporary and friend of Joe Roberson.  I got to meet Roberson through him and thought he was very friendly and gracious.  Roberson had a brief major league pitching career in the 1950s and once faced Ted Williams (I assume in Spring training or an exhibition game since they were in different leagues).  When asked how he pitched Williams he responded "low and behind."

RIP Joe Roberson. He was the AD for part of my undergrad years. He seemed like a decent man that understood what it meant to act as a good steward.

I wish he was a bit more inclined to help some of the club sports that were trying to garner more university financial and moral support as they took on other varsity programs, but I just don’t think that was his nature to be a change agent.

I went to school with Mr. Roberson's kids.  His daughter used to tease me mercilessly by singing a Journey song over and over knowing it drove me nuts.  I hadn't thought of that in years.  I hope she's doing OK today, and I'll even allow a chorus of Lovin', Touchin', and Squeezin' if it helps.
