I hope Gattis sticks around awhile.
Agreed. He's a positive for concepts, player growth, and will recruit explosive guys. Really impressed with him so far. Offense has no excuses this year... Veteran line, veteran QB, playmakers everywhere.... Just need to get healthy at WR and RB!
Agreed. This is the best OL group with depth in how long?
The OL could be the difference maker this year. Last year they good. This year they could be great. Warinner was such a good hire and the kids clearly learn and like playing for him.
How long? Shit, sadly maybe a decade.
The only contender since the Carr days was the line in 2011. Before that? I dunno, 2006?
Warinner has been a surprisingly good recruiter too. He's been a huge help for the program.
With depth? Since Carr, probably. The first Hoke OL that had Lewan, Molk, Omameh, and Schofield was good too.
Wasn't that Clappy line coached by Funk, though?
Yes, but much like the rest of the coaching on that 2011 team, the coaches didn't have to do much with the talent they got from Lloyd/RichRod.
I am betting that Gattis will not be at Michigan for very long. He is very ambitious and wow does this guy ooze confidence and charisma. He will be a head coach very soon. However, he will leave his mark at Michigan and will be replaced by another modern offensive coach. His departure will not be a bad thing because it will mean that he had great success. Harbaugh will bring in another excellent coach to replace him when the time is right.
My hope is that his offensive philosophy a) works and b) educates Harbaugh. If Harbaugh can pick up on the concepts, he'll be in a better position to keep continuity when Gattis leaves.
I don't think either of those things is unreasonable.
Based on the interview from today, he’s been completely hands off. He’s officially the CEO of Michigan football. This is great news.
It leads me to believe that even if Gattis takes a HC job in the next few years, JH would be able to go get the next best young offensive mind and let them have full control as well.
Yeah, best case scenario, Gattis is a wanted man 2 years from now after having successfully transformed our offense into a powerhouse. Harbaugh, realizing this, has spent those 2 years searching/grooming a new young mind to replace him. What we don't want is James Franklin promoting Ricky Rahne after Joe Moorehead leaves, who then slowly tanks the offense.
I’m sure McDaniels is taking notes.
Nice looking crystal ball you got there.
Don Brown, don't lie to me about the DL. If he's not blowing smoke, and we're good there, then we're going to have a great year.
Was surprised how positive he was of the DT's.
He also said Kwity Paye could be "technically, the best player in the country". That is an interesting assessment. I didn't know Paye was that high IQ of a player, already.
My gosh, we may never lose again.
Ha, I say that every spring.

Watching Don Brown interviews NEVER fails to inform and entertain. He speaks so clearly mixing in passion and confidence with a touch of humor and even humility. It is no one wonder that his former and current players and coaches hold him in such high regard.
He’s simply the best. He gets into detail about the progress of almost each meaningful guy.
