DiFilippo Hiring Call

Submitted by Enjoy Life on
(The following did not actually happen.) DiFilippo: "Hello coach, we're looking for a new HC here at BC and we'd like to interview you for the job. As you know, we have set the precedent for all college football coaching hiring that (as soon as you agree to this interview) you will be immediately fired by your current AD." Coach A: "Uh, huh." DiFilippo: "So, when can we schedule that interview?" Coach A: click

That's pretty funny..not that anyone would ever follow their word or be consistent, but you bring up a good point. If this guy wants to set a precedent he just narrowed his search to coordinators only. I like hard stands so if he wants to do that fine, we'll see how this goes. Sounds like he's going in house and the debate is moot.

i'm not sure you know the entire story. the coach basically wanted to get canned. While it's not outrageous to want a better job, he didn't even tell DeFilippo that he was interviewing with the Jets. The Jets didn't even tell DeFilippo (which is common in sports). The AD found out from a reporter. Also, the BC coach, Jags, is former NFL guy who wants to get out, he was basically trying to cut ties and make it look like he was the good guy. apparently he made it work.

If you look at BC's recruiting class this year, it's pretty obvious Jags wants out. That or he forgot to recruit players and is looking forward to the high school draft.

When BC's AD found out that Jags was considering an interview with the Jets, he asked Jags to confirm it and Jags assured DiFilippo that was was not, under any circumstances, interviewing for any other jobs and that the reports were rumors.

Here is the quote: "Boston College A.D. Gene DiFilippo warned head coach Jeff Jagodzinski that if he interviewed for the New York Jets’ head coaching vacancy, he would be fired. Jagodzinski did interview with the Jets and DiFilippo went through with his word, firing his head coach after only two seasons." Apparently the folks at WLA are in denial(what does WLA stand for anyway??) (sarcasm)

Chrisgocomment -- well, of course, I know that! Is it a surprise to you?? (Do you mean weird in a provocative, sexy way?) (Or weird as in "Weird Al Yankovich"?) (Or weird as in "out of my Fucking mind"?) I vote for all of the above. BTW -- thanks for the new moniker -- never thought of using EI. I like it.
