Deputy Brandin Hawthorne Shoutout from OCSO

Submitted by Nickel on February 10th, 2023 at 10:54 AM

The Orange County Sheriff's office gave a shoutout to their officers who used to be football players as a lead-in to this weekend's Super Bowl. Former Wolverine Brandin Hawthorne is included. Great to see a Wolverine who helped us through some of low years in the program serving his community this way.

He had a huge TFL on Cierre Wood that stalled a ND drive and I believe Denard went down the field and made it a one score game on the following Michigan drive.

Hawthorne read the play and timed the blitz to perfection. It was really in that moment that you could see the drastic impact that Greg Mattison had on the defense in such a short period of time.

I think Herbstreit made some comment after the play about “they sure know how to play football down in Pahokee.”

Am I misremembering a pick 6 in an early season game? I swear he at least had a pick along the Michigan sideline. Also bourbon is not your friend.

Dang that's a lot of high level talent in one sherriff's office.  Wonder if Dade County or Hillsborough Co would stack up, if they played some friendly flag football games.  Thanks for posting and hats off to those men and women for serving others.

From the 2021 MLIVE article I posted:

Hawthorne isn’t just reliving his Michigan days through conversations. He joined the nonprofit National Public Safety Football League this year, a 20-team league with rosters made up of first responders. Hawthorne’s team, the Orlando Guardians, went 5-0 in the pandemic-shortened season.
