Could Michigan recruit 30 next year?

Submitted by Kinda Blue on
Not sure how many available schollies we will have next year, but we had seven early starters. If at least two of them can be applied to last year's class (e.g., the spot formerly alloted to McGuffie), that knocks our 2009 class down to 20. If we get five early starters next year and apply them to the 2009 class, then we could potentially haul in 30 players next year. Of course, other factors like the number of total scholarships available and our win/loss record will also impact things. Anyone have a sense of how big our class might get to next year?

I believe it's 27 anyway. it's 27 or 28. Plus you can only have 85 scholarship players and we're at 82 right now I believe, with 13 guys without eligibility. I assume we'll still sign 20 guys but I wouldn't expect more then that.

We have 13 seniors graduating. We did not use 3 schollies. That's 16. But there are several candidates to not get a 5th year. Cone, and Wright come to mind. 18. Sheridan and Moundros also could be taken off of their scholarships since they were originally walk-ons (although, I imagine Moundros would keep his). We'll say 19, then.Other candidates for unrenewed 5th years could be Patterson, Dorrestein and Banks (with Dorrestein probably the most likely). Plus, looking down the roster, there are several who may transfer out (like Webb, Moore, Watson, Herron, Evans, Clemons, Hugye, and Rogers). I think we could be able to sign the max. RR wants to get his guys in here...

He is a tackle from the Lloyd-mold. Loot at the tackles that RR has specifically recruited. Lewan, Schofield and Onameh all have the same build. They are all long, lean, agile, and have the body build to add a lot of weight. Dorrestein is not a good fit in the spread offense. In 2010, we will have 6 OT's (in addition to the 3 I already mentioned, we also have Schilling, Mealer and O'Neill). And, a couple TE's could potentially shift over to OT (like Watson, Webb or Moore). If there is a number's crunch, and we have the opportunity to bring in more elite talent fit for our systems, RR will bring him in. And, Dorrestein could potentially be one that leaves. Just a guess, though.
