Could Jake Rudock lead the Miami Dolphins to the playoffs?
1. Miami is in with a win vs. Buffalo on Sunday
2. Ryan Fitzgerald is out with Covid tracing.
3. Tua Tagovailoa has struggled since being handed the starting job, including being benched last week.
4. Jake was signed yesterday to Miami's active roster and will be Tua's backup this weekend.
It would seem all the pieces are falling into place!

could is different than will
as a 40-something year old semi-athletic semi-chubby ex-goalie who still has pretty damn good hand eye coordination .... I technically COULD get a call from the Red Wings because they need me to practice for a week and play in a game or two
but they never will

Love the comparison of a guy at home to a guy on the active roster.
I'm available to be called upon to help with logical comparisons for you next time, but I won't be called in either. Also semi-chubby with good hand eye coordination.

Well if you're going to be sour about a joke, it wasn't a comparison of the two subjects. It was an exaggerated analogy highlighting the differences comparing two verbs and commenting on uncertainty in the world.
It could've also been said: "I COULD complete my New Years Resolution to seduce Kate Upton and have amazing coitus, while getting a high five from JV the next day instead of murdered."

I need to see Fitz start a playoff game as an underdog before he hangs em up. He has one of the best stories in the league
January 1st, 2021 at 2:41 PM ^
Fitz won't hang 'em up until they tear the uniform off of him. Why would any NFL backup QB ever retire of their own accord?
Besides, Fitz is the one year stop gap for the Lions after they trade Stafford.

I doubt it Vlad, he's nothing more than a back up placeholder IMO.
But I hope I'm wrong and he kicks ass!

The Russians hacked NFL codes, and have arranged it all. Things ARE falling into place.

He won't leave the sideline.

I’m by no means a dolphins fan or closely following Tua. But the “struggling” stuff is just odd when you look at his stats.
6-2 as starter
10 TD’s / 2 INT’s
Completing nearly 66% of his passes.
Have to think a lot of franchises would love to have a struggling QB with those numbers. I get that he’s not pushing the ball down the field a ton. But just looking at their depth chart, they don’t really seem like a team built to drive the ball down the field like other offenses?
Is there some computer program out there telling everyone he sucks or are there other things I’m missing?
January 1st, 2021 at 3:22 PM ^
He's had three decent games and four where he failed to crack 100 yards passing.
January 1st, 2021 at 3:24 PM ^
The main problem--or at least a major problem--is that he is near the bottom of the league in YPA. He's not making big mistakes, but he's struggling to move the ball.
January 1st, 2021 at 4:33 PM ^
He has also had literally the worst offensive weapons in the league.

No, lol

If the Bills start their 3rd string.
January 1st, 2021 at 2:50 PM ^
And he meets Brady in the super bowl. Would be an epic duel

"Ryan Fitzgerald is out with Covid tracing."
Sorry comrade but it's Ryan Fitzpatrick! You need to research your cold war enemy better next time.
January 1st, 2021 at 3:25 PM ^
It's actually Fitzmagic, but I digress
January 1st, 2021 at 3:15 PM ^
unless he's been studying their playbook, he'll be calling plays like kids do on the playground:
jimmy, you go down to the 30 and circle the NFL logo. dashawn, start slow and then jet to the end zone, i'll hit you there. oh, and which one of you is the tight end? you? cool. if you see me in trouble leak out and i'll try and toss it to you. on two.
i would love to have him make it. seemed like a great kid and did very well for us. is he in medical school, which i think was what they said he was aimed at after football.

Even if he leads them to a title and wins the MVP award you know his name would be misspelled.
January 1st, 2021 at 3:24 PM ^
MVVVP!
January 1st, 2021 at 3:38 PM ^
I doubt it comes to pass but it would be cool if he did.
January 1st, 2021 at 3:48 PM ^
Wait, as I recall, it is Jake Ruddddddddddock, but the 2nd through 10th "d"s are simply silent.
January 1st, 2021 at 4:05 PM ^
Nope, not happening
January 1st, 2021 at 4:20 PM ^
Dolphins need to go with Tua. The original reason he started was so they could get a long look at him before the upcoming draft, where they have a billion picks.
The dolphins making the playoffs would be great this year, but may set them back tremendously due to their order of picks being influenced by their playoff position.
It would be similar to my Titans making the playoffs in 2017, despite no business being there.
January 1st, 2021 at 4:49 PM ^
These are good points and others have noted that Tua Tagovailoa even when struggling has been good.
BUT the big issue is the Buffalo Bills are a much better team than were in the past.
January 1st, 2021 at 6:29 PM ^
But they may rest their starters. I think they're locked into their seed.
January 1st, 2021 at 5:14 PM ^
It's funny to think that the last great Michigan QB to have a great year at Michigan was Jake.
January 1st, 2021 at 5:59 PM ^
It is cool Jake is a backup but terrible title. Unless Tua sucks so bad or gets hurt there is no way they are going to Jake. Tua hasn't been that bad and would have never been benched if Miami wasn't in the playoff hunt.
January 1st, 2021 at 6:01 PM ^
Isn't Tua 6-2 as the Dolphins' starter? Yeah, no way I roll with Rudock in that spot.
January 1st, 2021 at 6:13 PM ^
This Dolphin fan hopes if Tua can't Jake can. Hope Tua has some of that FitzMagic in him.
January 1st, 2021 at 6:52 PM ^
Yes.
No.
Maybe.
I don't know.
January 1st, 2021 at 7:04 PM ^
It’s bizarre that he is still out there making money playing football. Good for him, always seemed like a good person
January 1st, 2021 at 7:23 PM ^
why not? We've seen a roughly similar story happen.
