Could Jake Rudock lead the Miami Dolphins to the playoffs?

1. Miami is in with a win vs. Buffalo on Sunday

2. Ryan Fitzgerald is out with Covid tracing.

3. Tua Tagovailoa has struggled since being handed the starting job, including being benched last week.

4. Jake was signed yesterday to Miami's active roster and will be Tua's backup this weekend.

It would seem all the pieces are falling into place!

could is different than will

as a 40-something year old semi-athletic semi-chubby ex-goalie who still has pretty damn good hand eye coordination .... I technically COULD get a call from the Red Wings because they need me to practice for a week and play in a game or two

but they never will

Well if you're going to be sour about a joke, it wasn't a comparison of the two subjects. It was an exaggerated analogy highlighting the differences comparing two verbs and commenting on uncertainty in the world.

It could've also been said: "I COULD complete my New Years Resolution to seduce Kate Upton and have amazing coitus, while getting a high five from JV the next day instead of murdered."

I’m by no means a dolphins fan or closely following Tua. But the “struggling” stuff is just odd when you look at his stats.

6-2 as starter

10 TD’s / 2 INT’s

Completing nearly 66% of his passes.

Have to think a lot of franchises would love to have a struggling QB with those numbers. I get that he’s not pushing the ball down the field a ton. But just looking at their depth chart, they don’t really seem like a team built to drive the ball down the field like other offenses?

Is there some computer program out there telling everyone he sucks or are there other things I’m missing?

"Ryan Fitzgerald is out with Covid tracing."

Sorry comrade but it's Ryan Fitzpatrick! You need to research your cold war enemy better next time.

unless he's been studying their playbook, he'll be calling plays like kids do on the playground:

jimmy, you go down to the 30 and circle the NFL logo.  dashawn, start slow and then jet to the end zone, i'll hit you there.  oh, and which one of you is the tight end?  you? cool.  if you see me in trouble leak out and i'll try and toss it to you.  on two.

i would love to have him make it.  seemed like a great kid and did very well for us. is he in medical school, which i think was what they said he was aimed at after football.

Dolphins need to go with Tua. The original reason he started was so they could get a long look at him before the upcoming draft, where they have a billion picks.

The dolphins making the playoffs would be great this year, but may set them back tremendously due to their order of picks being influenced by their playoff position.

It would be similar to my Titans making the playoffs in 2017, despite no business being there.

These are good points and others have noted that Tua Tagovailoa even when struggling has been good.

BUT the big issue is the Buffalo Bills are a much better team than were in the past.

It is cool Jake is a backup but terrible title.   Unless Tua sucks so bad or gets hurt there is no way they are going to Jake.    Tua hasn't been that bad and would have never been benched if Miami wasn't in the playoff hunt.
