Younger players look up to him as the leader in the locker room.
as he was out for the Indiana snow globe game. John O'Korn started and played that entire game.
That's a terrible reason to be a captain.
How about be a captain because you're the leader of that unit?
And do we want that? Or do we want him to have a great season...come back, and have another great season? Not sure you'll find a consensus. Me personally, I just want the best opportunity to win this year, next year, and every year.
Fine by me! Then next year it'd be Gary on D more than likely.

One thing may be of interest to only me: No J.T. Barrett. No Barkley or McSorely either, but PSU just took fifth year seniors
They are sending 3 quality players to the media days and return 8 on offense and 8 on defense. Their QB (Thorson) is pretty solid and he is back too.
Agree completely.
Penn State plays at Northwestern immediately before us (although there is a bye week between). I think given Franklin's crappy coaching ability, losing in Evanston would more likely throw them off the rails rather than the rally around the flag effect we saw in OSU in 2015 after shitting the bed against Sparty.
Another interesting fact: In addition to Michigan, Northwestern is the only team in the Big Ten Franklin-led Penn State has played but never beaten. (Franklin is 0-3 against Michigan, 0-2 against Northwestern, with one loss in State College and one loss in Evanston; in fact, in 2014 NW beat Penn State by 23 points in Happy Valley).
Why not send Barkley? Can we assume he's gone after this year?
they are using the "We're only sending seniors" excuse. I'd imagine he'll be gone, since a ton of NFL guys seem to rank him above all of last years RB class, which included Fournette, Christian McCaffrey and Dalvin Cook.
I'd assume so regardless of B1G Media Days. If you're Barkley you have to be thinking:
1. You already have won a Conference Title and gone to the Rose Bowl
2. He will probably be All-American this year and may win some hardware
3. His value is already known and high, RB shelf life is short, and his value depreciates with every carry
4. Stay in BFE Pennsylvania for another year or go make bookoo bucks in Not-BFE-Pennsylvania, USA
If you're a RB with a 1st or 2nd round grade you should never stay in school
Franklin may have a policy of only bringing seniors. But yeah, unless Barkley suffers some traumatic injury that doesn't allow him to play at all this year, he's gone after this season. And no one should blame him.
Best RB in the conference bar none, and arguably the best in the country. Considering the average shelf life of NFL RBs is 2-3 years, he needs to strike while the iron is hot. Especially if he has an All-American type of season.
The three guys last year did a great job.
represent UM. Three outstanding players and people who will form the core of the team this season.
No surprise here, we're going to rely on these senior leaders (+ Khalid Hill IMO).
Khalid is my favorite guy on the team right now.
Great representatives of the team to bring. Very few seniors on this team, so these guys will be relied on very heavily to lead the way for a horde of very talented, but very inexperienced freshmen and sophomores.
I'm guessing at least two of these three gentlemen will be the team captains. My guess is Cole and McCray, with possible other options being Hill (on O) or Hurst (on D).
