Clayton Richard pitching against the Tigers like right now

Submitted by WolvinLA on
I always want M grads in the pros to do well, no matter what team they're on. Today, however, I hope he takes a loss. He's still on the White Sox, after all.

where you root against the Tigers. I am from Chicago and a Cubs fan but I pull for the Sox to win when this guy pitches. Good thing he is better at pitching than he was at not fumbling snaps

and I am not your father. So you don't have to listen to me, you may do as you please and root for whoever you want. Maybe I should have said "would" instead of "should" because if there was 1 game you "would" root for the other team it would be a game against a UM pitcher (he was more than just a backup QB at Michigan). I guess to be fair I wouldn't root against the Cubs in this situation, but I would subconsciously root for Richard to pitch well and maybe even get the win. Sorry

"this should be 1/162 games where you root against the Tigers" and "I guess to be fair I wouldn't root against the Cubs in this situation." In other words, "exactly." But like the rest of you, sure, I root for the kid to do well.. against Detroit? Well enough, but lose.

I understand that the biggest concentration of UM grads will be from metro Detroit, and therefore I expect many Lions, Pistons, Red Wings, and Tigers fans here on this site. Fair enough. But I'm a Michigan fan first, and therefore am rooting for Richards over the Tigers. I guess I can understand the Tiger fans being bitter, since the Tigers haven't done anything much lately. As in, since 1984, iirc. But root for the Tigers in the rest of the games, not today's. However, regarding UM grads and other teams, I feel only pity for Cubs fans. Being a Cubs fan is like rooting for Northwestern. Lastly, if the Patriots are playing the Bears, I root for the Pats, because of Brady. And if teams have Michigan grads on both sides, then it's a tossup. For example, I rooted for the Cards in the SuperBowl last year, although it didn't really matter. To sum up, I will almost always root for Michigan grads, even against Chicago teams.

Your comment makes little sense to me without knowing where you're from and what pro sports teams you root for. Are you a Cubs fan? From Chicago? You'll root for Richard to beat the Cubs during the Red Line series? Regarding rooting for UM grads in general- I think most all UM fans do that. I loved the Super Bowl this year for that reason.

Kass - I get you're from Chicago. But you always root for UM grads over Chicago teams? Brady, I get. Some UM grads' success so obviously can impact UM or reflect well on the school it's hard not to. And, I'm sure, it depends a bit on how big of a fan one is of the particular team/sport (for instance, my fan love goes roughly: (1) tied UM football, (1) tied Detroit Tigers, (3) UM basketball, (4) tied Detroit Red Wings, (4) tied Detroit Pistons, (6) all UM sports .... (100) watching paint dry, (101) Detroit Lions. Therefore, while I still want the Lions to win, I'm more than fine if Brady carves them up for 10 TD passes... or Braylon catches 9 bombs on them, etc., etc., etc. But if you're a big fan of an MLB team and a big UM fan... I don't think Clayton Richard, much as I want the kid to do well, has such a strong UM-connection that I'm hoping he takes a crucial game against the Tigers, holders of a small lead in the Central. And the bitter comment makes zero sense in any context. Tigers fans are so bitter they... root... for... their team?

Is I should always root for someone affiliated with uofm, even if they are playing a team I am a fan of. Bullshit. I root for the tigers, always, I don't care who they r playing, I always want them to win. If my team doesn't have a stake in it, sure, ill root for uofm alums, but if them losing helps the tigers, so be it. Also, chicago has 2 baseball teams that have combined for 1 title in 100 years...but I guess the tigers haven't done much lately.

Zumaya just blew the lead by giving up a homer to Konerko. Konerko has played 165 games against Detroit in his career (including today). In those games he has 34 HRs and 115 RBIs. A pretty damn good full season (162 games in a season, but pretty close).

For the second day in a row, Detroit's offense bailed out Zumaya after he gave up the lead. And this guy is supposedly our closer of the future? I just don't see it.

From what I've seen (I'm a Sox fan but we've seen plenty of Zumaya over the last few years) he usually has trouble throwing those pitches for strikes. And if he can't throw them for strikes, they sit on the fastball anyways. I don't think Bondo has it tonight either. When Scott Podsednik hits a homer off of you, I think that's a pretty bad sign.
