"When you look back at the recruiting class of 2005, there is some good, some bad – and some tragic." --Rivals http://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=908560 Below is a list of Michigan's top recruits(and eventual results)in the Rivals 100 of 2005: 22. Kevin Grady, RB, Michigan East Grand Rapids (Mich.) High -Grady looked like a future star as a freshman (483 yards in a reserve role) but saw his workload decrease as a sophomore. He then blew out his ACL in spring 2007. He played in 10 games this past season as a junior, rushing for 33 yards. 37. Marques Slocum, OG, Michigan Philadelphia West Catholic -He had problems becoming academically eligible and ended up playing only one season in Ann Arbor. He was dismissed from the team last summer and reportedly is trying to get his academics in order at a junior college. 45. Mario Manningham, WR, Michigan Warren (Ohio) Harding -After a solid three-year career at Michigan, Manningham left Ann Arbor after his junior season. He was a second-round pick of the New York Giants in the 2008 NFL draft but missed most of this past season with injuries. 49. Antonio Bass, ATH, Michigan Jackson (Mich.) High -Bass played in 10 games as a freshman, but then sustained a serious knee injury that included nerve damage in spring 2006. He remains on scholarship but no longer is playing football. 83. Cory Zirbel, OT, Michigan Murray (Ky.) High -He has missed the past two seasons because of injury. 96. Terrance Taylor, DT, Michigan Muskegon (Mich.) High -Taylor was a four-year letterman for the Wolverines and a team captain this past season. 98. James McKinney, DT, Michigan Louisville (Ky.) Central -McKinney left Michigan after two years because of injuries and a lack of playing time and transferred to Louisville. He no longer is on the Cardinals' roster. So...was this class good, bad, or tragic!?!

Only one of those players contributed last year -- not exactly what you hope for from a "loaded" 2005 recruiting class. The lack of senior leadership on offense was problematic to say the least.

All of the above. Taylor and Manningham = good; Grady = meh; Slocum and McKinney = Bad; Bass and Zirbel = tragic (the latter two would have helped the team immensely last year). BTW - they should have added that Zirbel is done too.

tragic. and then take into consideration both the 03 and 04 classes. yeah 04 had henne, hart and 03 had long but look back at are entire commitment lists for both years. we lost A LOT of guys. then when you include that to what happened with our 05 kids, it really is no wonder that we were so shitty last year.

Tragic. Look at how much of the attrition was either for injury or general knuckleheaded-ness. There was nobody that did everything right but just wasn't a good player.
