Official times are 4.58 for Rashan and 4.59 for Chase. Both seem to be making money today.
Rashan's is exactly the same as that hand-timed 40 reported from practice a while back that made everyone say "no way". Dude is a genetic freak.
Update: Rashan and Chase officially the 3rd and 4th fastest DL at the combine, respectively.
And Bosa ran a 4.8. Lol.
We all knew Gary would kill it, but Chase running that fast was very impressive. We all know Gary is a top 5-10 pick, but really hoping Chase slides into ths 2-3 round. Love that kid!
Chase definitely won't make it out of Day 2. I can see the Pats taking him honestly.
I'd be interested to see if Rashan could test so well that he moves past Bosa. Probably not, but if the Cardinals go with Murray instead of a DL with the top pick, it shakes some things up. Quinnen Williams is probably next to SF, then NYJ and Oakland have to pick between Gary, Bosa, and Allen.
Trying to remain unbiased here, but Bosa looks pretty bad. Has struggled in some of these drills. Still think he will be drafted ahead of Gary tho. Gary’s lack of production will keep him from being drafted ahead of some of these other defensive guys.
I think people may be disappointed with how far Gary falls. This is a very deep draft for pass rushers, and there are a lot of guys that people are looking at ahead of him. Speed is fine, but, as noted, Gary's actual on-field production was not eye-popping. Someone may think he's a perfect fit for them, and grab him early, but I can easily see him dropping to late in the first round.
I'd bet my life on him being a top ten pick, barring some injury or freak accident between now and the draft. Don't be a dumbass in the name of being the "unbiased, intellectual Michigan fan".
Guys like Bosa, Josh Allen, Montez Sweat, Clelin Ferrell, Brian Burns, and Jachai Polite are all being looked at hard as first round pass-rusher picks. There's not going to be a lot of room in the top 10 for a guy like Gary, who was less productive than any of them.
Only Bosa and Allen are consistently being talked about above Rashan, and nearly every team in the top ten has a DL need. Not that mock drafts are the best indicators, but nearly every single one has him at 4 to Oakland, and the lowest I've seen is at 12 to Green Bay (from Walter Football, the least reputable of the various mocks). The "production" line is not a serious thing.
You have to really, really want to be a contrarian to think Rashan is getting out of the top ten. It's just not based in reality. He won't get past the Lions at 8.
Well, here's an article on the Packer's own web site talking about all the pass rushers they're looking at. Gary isn't even mentioned. So yes, the mocks you're citing seem less than reliable.
Yes because the editorial team for Packers dot com is assuredly getting all of their info directly from the GM, who would like said information known in public.
And the mock drafters are getting their info from which much more reliable source?
Packers fan here. I'm very surprised that many bloggers and podcasters from Wisconsin dont seem too fond of Rashan and Chase. Shocked, I tell you!
He's gonna go top 5 IMO
Bosa’s 40 time was better than Joey’s, I didn’t see anything today that would lower his draft stock. He goes into Juggernaut mode against O-linemen and is still a top 3 pick
Hate to admit it, but Bosa was a better player, and by a good margin
Yes, but Bosa was faster in the 10 yard split. That’s way more important than the 40. Well, that, and the 3 years of average film on Gary.
Joey Bosa ran 4.8. Nick's 10 yard split is actually really good which is more important for his position anyway. He still tested out as an elite athlete so he wasn't hurt by the combine workout
Chase going that fast is impressive. He always seemed "game fast" but I wondered how he'd perform in the physical drills. I'm pleasantly surprised.
Same. Thought he might run a 4.7. 4.59 is fantastic for him.
He’s a better football player than Gary.
Winovich ran down a lot of players in his time and nearly caught some down field that escaped. I'm surprised at how many are surprised by his combine speed. On the other hand I'm surprised that he only managed 18 reps.
It's more that he seemed like a guy who plays faster than he would rep at a combine; there are guys who run much better in shorts and track shoes than full pads. I sort of assumed Chase would put up a time closer to Bosa's, maybe in the 4.7 range. Not slow, but 4.59 is one of the better numbers an edge rusher has put up in the past couple of years.
"He played fast, but we're surprised that he is actually fast" definitely sounds like a bit of white guy bias, lol.
But yeah, everyone knows Rashan is an athletic freak, so seeing Chase put up similar numbers is pretty impressive.
A “real gym rat” “hard worker” “lunch pail type of guy” “good fundamentals”
did I miss any?
Sigh... so much talent wasted through the years because Michigan refused to play offensive football in the 21st century.
we had a freak, but he was perpetually dealing with an injury, double teams, etc... Wish he had beaten OSU.
Exactly, no other DE has ever had to contend with double teams.
Is the /s really necessary?
2 Star TE prospect outta high school.
***Ducks
Who got kicked out of MSU (YTMSU) for the weed ...... allegedly.
247 had him as a three-star and pretty far (#1371) down the list:

@$*#ing Sparty sure knows how to ID talent at the high school level.
Goddamn, that's incredibly fast for a man his size.
Gary is creating his own representation entity/firm. He is going to be a multi-billionaire in ten years. The player career is for glory. I'm excited to see what this kid does off of the field.
Go Blue!
Unless his agency also ventures into e-commerce, money markets, tech, and artificial intelligence, no he will not be a multi-billionaire. He's creating generational wealth, yes, but Scott Boras is the wealthiest agent and his net worth isn't even close to a billion.
Boy you took to that literally.
I was using a high assumed inflation rate (jk) my main point is that Gary’s business acumen is impressive.
Hey, we can all be billionaires in Colombia!
Your brain generates nothing but stupid shit.
You are a gifted debater. Your command of the English language is commendable. God I wish I could be more like you. My brain, sadly, produces the large colon's end product, pre-sphincter. Doctors are baffled, but alas, it's my condition, so I'm trying to adapt. And yes, the physical product directly effects the metaphorical thought pattern. It would be funny if it were not so sad, and stinky. The brain perceiving its own wretched filth is the very foundation of irony, not that I even know what the means.
Corn. Corn. Corn.
Can we be friends, JPC?
Lebron James is the most marketable athlete in the planet and he’s worth under 500MM.
Umm... there’s a guy named Michael Jordan that would like a word with you
Uh, or Tiger Woods, or some soccer player, or Indy car driver, or Floyd Mayweather. There are a lot of athletes making tons of dough guys.
Tiger Woods? Floyd Mayweather? Are either of these two marketable at all outside performing their craft?
At his peak, Tiger was pulling in $100 million a year, having associated/branded himself with top performance (e.g. watches).
I'm not an advertising guy, and I chuckled that wealthy folk could apparently be so easily influenced by having his name slapped on a product/service, but he sure got paid for it until he became associated with how to lose an absolutely gorgeous wife for some so-so looking conquests.
I should have said currently.
And I would wager that post-basketball Lebron triples that number.
This will be interesting. I am not sure LeBron has the staying power of Jordan in terms of merchandise, the Jordan brand is truly one of a kind. That said, LeBron has made some non basketball deals that have done him very well. The question is were those deals luck and being right place right time, or good business sense. One is sustainable, one is not.
Cristiano Ronaldo is the most marketable globally
Not surprised by Chases 40 time at all
Remember against rutgers when their RB had that huge touchdown run Chase outran our DBs and almost caught him
Our DEs should’ve played at free safety.
