From CC to TT - We've come a long way

Submitted by Bluestreak on

It wasn't long ago that we when the boards were full of CC topics. Life being a Michigan fan was difficult.

Rich Rod - the offensive genius coach was struggling and drowning due to a miserable defense.

He got slapped by the NCAA for having students stretch an additional 15 minutes. The recruits were not coming and when they did come, they weren't ready and 'too young' for the Big Ten.

The Michigan fan base was divided and some thought the world would end if we didn't convince Jim Harbaugh to come to Ann Arbor. Brady Hoke was an after thought, almost a compromise in the eyes of some.

Fast forward to TT and seems that Lady Luck is smiling upon us again. There is hope due to a competent staff (Greg Mattison FTW). Brady Hoke has the enthusiasm of a college kid while recruiting (over 100 offers and we haven't even started spring practice) and now OSU is in the scrutiny of the NCAA. The dice just seems to be falling right.

I have a feeling this is the year when everything in the last three year changes. Fortune will look north again and little bro will taste defeat in football.

The wheel of fortune has turned again ... this time in our favor.

Go Blue!

You left out a newly minted bubble team in basketball since the CC days, but other than that this is pretty dead-on.

Edit: you might also want to include the word "defensive" when saying competent staff. I know it's just the PC thing to do, but it might start a war.

my chickens before they hatch. You know it comes with a lot of pain.

That being said - I'm pretty confident we are in -irrespective of the Illini game. We'd probably just sweat a little more on SS

Edit - Our coaching staff overall is competent and it is more balanced compared to earlier.

Ha, I just replied to you in another thread too. I think it is competent as well, but with the flame wars that have happened in the past about how competent the offensive staff was, I was just saying it might be better to err on the side of caution.

Although it looks like a moot point now, I think if this was going to turn nasty it would have already.

Not saying RR was not competent - the man has a resume which few boast when it comes to offensive schemes.

If RR was more flair and 'unpredictable' - this staff seems more pragmatic and 'back to the basics'.

My point is more about this coaching staff being more balanced and more well rounded overall (pun not intended) than to doubt RR's abilities.

Also - you nailed the analysis on OSU's recruitment in the other thread. If T goes, recruitment will suffer (then again if they convince Pete Carroll to come in and coach it might not)

Yea no problems here with what you said. But those were dark, dark days when it was a catfight over RR vs Borges and Mattison vs Hypothetical Randy Shannon.

Thanks about the recruiting, I just don't see them being harmed unless Tressel gets fired or has to sit on campus or something.
