Captains are voted on by the team so he must be a good leader even if not the most talented.

I'm just hoping there is good leadership across both sides of the ball. It seems to have been an issue for Michigan for a long time now. Encouraged by the reports of Cade stepping up.

I believe it has been shared in the past that Harbaugh tries to influence who gets picked as captains even though the players do the actual voting.
There were also issues with naming Captains during Hoke's & RichRod's time, although each year that passes I try to forget details from this period.

I would have liked to have seen Cade named a captain. As the most important position on the field, it is baffling that none of our QBs are ever captains. I’m not sure if that speaks to leadership problems or the team not emphasizing the QB position enough.
