It was the first pick with Steve Yzerman as general manager. Seider was ranked sixth among European skaters in final draft rankings. The Wings passed up several highly rated forwards — Dylan Cozens, Trevor Zegras, Cole Caufield — and the pick reflects the lack of defensemen depth in the organization.
I would be more worried about this pick if it had come from Holland. I have more faith in Stevie Y
The previous German named Moritz who came to Michigan to play seemed to do okay for himself.
Yeah, I mean it was college basketball not pro hockey, but it's basically the same thing.
I hate this pick ! Draft scorers ! Defense can be patched together, elite goal scorers can't be found often.
RedWing fans, including myself, would have absolutely skewered Ken Holland if he'd picked Seider at 6 overall. Stevie being held to a different standard. I understand that the RW organization badly needs defensmen, but I hate that pick.

Admittedly I didn’t watch any of sieder before the draft. After watching his film, he looks like libor sulak 2.0. I was worried stevie wasn’t gonna be good at this draft. Brett Connolly top 10 scared me for what I should expect tonight. I’m sure sieder isn’t a bad player, but at 6..... to take a defensive defenseman who’s ceiling is second pairing, come on stevie.
I hate the pick, but come on....his ceiling is the best defensemen on the team.
True. But dekeyser will forever get 25 minutes a night while blashill is coach, even if he turns it over 20 times a game. All cholo has to do is have 2 turnovers to get healthy scratched. Dekeyser could commit murder out there and blashill will double shift him.
So admittedly, you don't know shit about this guy, but you know his ceiling.
