Brady Hoke as former HC candidate

Submitted by M - Flightsci on
Heard on the radio today: Ball State's tremendous coach Brady Hoke, on playing Western Michigan tonight; "Obviously, Western is a TREMENDOUS team, and we have a TREMENDOUS challenge ahead of us..." If that's not classic Lloyd-speak, I don't know what is. No wonder he was such a tremendous candidate.

Hoke turned out to be a much better candidate than DeBord. And not many here thought he was last year. He'll be at a BCS school either this year or next.

Ball State really is dealing with a major challenge here. I mean, Central Michigan gave Ball State all they could handle, and Western Michigan gave Central a war as well. Western is a dangerous team and very capable of defeating Ball State tonight.

The MAC is better than ever. Last week's CMU-Ball State matchup was the first MAC game I made a point of clearing out my evening to watch. I'll probably do the same tonight. Ball State and Central have fun offenses, and God I would have killed to have Dan LeFevour on Michigan this year.

Think of all the potential hubbub the media will create if we lose: "Michigan on the decline" "Michigan no longer elite" "Michigan loses to four Non-BCS schools in 3 years" "Michigan losers to MAC again" If they do end up beating us...Rosenberg and Sharp will be on coast for the rest of their/RichRod's tenure. (as if they weren't already)

i can see it now. but seriously, if western plays like they are capable next year they could've given the 07 team a scare. western's QB..hiller is actually good. i've heard he's a decent NFL prospect and his numbers were pretty sick his soph year i think. they'll be good

Well, Western didn't really show up tonight, but give credit to Ball State... they really came out and played a ballgame. Hiller looked rattled at times. After seeing him pick apart Illinois' defense in person, I was surprised. Michigan is going to have a handful next year, no doubt about it. Losing Jamarko is going to hurt- he overtook Greg Jennings as our leading receiver last game- but we have a solid corps of WR's for next year as well.

Just remember - everyone was/is on CMU's nut this year, and they lost to Purdue. Methinks we're over-stating how good some of these MAC teams are.

I'd say the difference between Ball St. and the rest of the MAC (and, yes, CMU included) is that Nate Davis is a legitimate NFL QB prospect.

The MAC may or may not be good (while we're cherry-picking results, note that Illinois, a team that kicked our ass, lost to a MAC school), but regardless, when a guy inherits a complete joke of a program and turns it into a winner, he's probably a good coach. Now, I wouldn't trade RichRod for Hoke or anything (RR did essentially the same thing at a higher-level program), but what he's done there is impressive. He represents the last offshoot of the Bo-Mo-Lloyd coaching tree, so it's nice to see him do well.
