Borges Says DRob Will be a +1,000 Yd Rusher in His Offense

Submitted by MGoShoe on

Are you still thinking that Al Borges isn't devising an offense to take advantage of Denard's wheels?

Think again:

PeterCBigelow Michigan off coord. Al Borges doesn't see Denard Robinson running for 1,700 yards in this system. "More like 1,000 maybe 1,200," he said.

PeterCBigelow Borges just says the system won't call for Denard to run as often.

I look at Denard getting 3200 years passing and 25 td's and 10 ints.  They say qb's biggest growth is between first and second year of starting, so with denard improving dramatically, along with roundtree, stonum, and hemingway all showing that they can produce, it seems probable.  add 1000 yards rushing and its looking good for next years offense.

Personally, I think that Denard is going to be a more effective weapon under Borges' offense than he was under RR's offense.

I envision Denard as a Troy Smith type of college QB.  Remember Smith's last two years.  His primary weapon was his arm, but if the D-line broke down, and it looked like he was going to get sacked, he regularly picked up 7-15 yards on the ground.  Ditto if his receivers couldn't get upon.  Sure, he had his share of designed runs, but just from memory, it was more like 5-10 a game, not 15-20 like 2010 Denard.

Of course for Denard to be an effective pro-style QB, it will be essential for one of our RBs to step up and establish an effective ground game, such that teams are forced to keep a respectable number of defenders at or close to the LOS.

1,000 yards on scrambles that often end in running out of bounds/sliding > 1,700 yards on designed runs into the teeth of the defense that often ended in getting dinged

at this. Coaches dream of having players like Denard, it's like cheating. Of course they're going to use all his skills. Ignore the great and powerful Oz on this one
