Bob Ufer Poem on the Game 50 Years Ago Today

I know there's already one thread on today being the 50th anniversary of the 1969 Michigan-Ohio State game, but this one deserves its own thread.

If you've never heard the poem that Bob Ufer wrote and performed about that game, you need to hear it. And if you have heard it, you need to hear it again.

Bob Ufer and my Mom are why I became a Meeechigan fan over 50 years ago. My Mom passed away 30 years ago today.

RIP Mom and Mr. Ufer.

This is my poem on 1/1/98 from my seat in the Rose Bowl.

We came, we saw, we conquered

We won the year's last game.

We beat those Cougars of Washington State

And garnished all that National Fame.

I told Lee Corso, you're nothing but a big dumbass

And now the whole college football world knows you truly have no class.

For you ranted and raved about your Cornhuskers of Nebraska

But here in Michigan we really don't give a damn, all I'll have to do is just ask ya.

For today, January 1st 1998, we won the Grandaddy of the All

That famous Rose Bowl.

And now there truly is no doubt

We deserve to be number one in both the final college football polls.

That's all there is, there isn't anymore

With Bob Ufer as my inspiration, I believe this to be so true.

That in the fall there is only one team to cheer for

And they wear the Maize and the Blue!!!

It's the fiftieth anniversary of the greatest game in Michigan football history. The two-loss, underdog Wolverines whooped up on the undefeated, #1 ranked OSU. Must. Resist. Enticing. Narrative. Parallels.
